Indians infielder Zach Walters (oblique) and first baseman Nick Swisher (knee) are close to being cleared to begin rehab assignments, reports MLB.com.

Indians manager Terry Francona said Walters could begin rehabbing in the next few days while Swisher is right behind him.

Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford took out a lot of frustration Thursday night at the plate with a two-run homer against Arizona that cut his team's deficit to 4-3. After all, he was hitless in his previous 24 at-bats.

Crawford, who also walked twice in the San Francisco defeat, managed to sweeten his slash line on the season to .167/.268/.333.

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts went 0 for 4, but made it through Wednesday's game against the Nationals unscathed, per the Boston Herald.

Bogaerts missed Tuesday's contest due to a sore right knee. He underwent an MRI, which came back clean before returning to action on Wednesday. He reported no issues following Wednesday's 10-5 loss to Washington.

"I was a bit concerned about the knee in the beginning of the game," Bogaerts said. "But I can't think about that or else I can't play. Just let the natural abilities take over."

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts made his return to the starting lineup Wednesday against the Nationals after sitting out Tuesday due to a knee injury. Unfortunately, Pablo Sandoval was absent from the lineup after leaving Tuesday's game with a left foot contusion.

Brock Holt, who started in Bogaerts' absence Tuesday, moved over to third base to start for Sandoval on Wednesday. Although, manager John Farrell said Sandoval could play if needed, but felt Wednesday was a good time to give him a day off.

The Red Sox are considered favorites (-125) for Wednesday's game.

Bogaerts suffered the injury during Monday's game, but he didn't start feeling pain until Tuesday morning. He was not included in Tuesday's lineup, and has been deemed as day to day moving forward.

"He was rounding third base, held up and there was a little bit of a slip," Farrell said, per the Boston Herald. "He continued on in the game with no issue, no complaint, no word of anything. Even after the game he didn’t feel anything. He came in today with increased symptoms, he was examined here and we sent him over for an MRI right now."

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Nationals, the team announced. In his place will be Brock Holt, making his second start of the season. Bogaerts has started all seven games for Boston so far this season at shortstop and is likely getting a day of rest. He is a career .277 hitter against right handers.

Also getting the day of his Shane Victorino, as Daniel Nava will replace him in right field and bat seventh. Nava is hitting .364 in 11 at-bats to start the year.

The Red Sox are currently the favorites (-124) over the Nationals.

Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts had a two-RBI double off Masahiro Tanaka in the fourth inning of Sunday's 14-4 loss against the Yankees. He finished the game 2 for 4.

Bogaerts has hit safely in five straight games after being held hitless in the season opener against the Phillies. He has three multihit games.

The second-year infielder is batting .407 (11 for 27) with one double, one triple, four runs, six RBI, three walks and three strikeouts in six games. He also has two stolen bases.

Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon went 3 for 5 with a double, a triple and one RBI in his team's 8-5 loss to the Rays Sunday.

It was the second three-hit performance in three games for Gordon, who wrapped two 3-for-5 lines around an 0-for-4 day during his team's series against the Rays. He's hit .346/.370/.500 with five runs scored, three RBI and three stolen bases in his first six games.

Indians infielder Zach Walters has been making progress with his in-game activity in Arizona as he rehabs from a strained oblique, MLB.com reports.

Manager Terry Francona indicated Sunday that the utility player would be limited to one position during the early stages of his rehab. Walters will be sent on a rehab assignment to Triple-A Columbus when he's able to play a full nine innings.
