Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts is not in the team's starting lineup Saturday.

Bogaerts will be replaced by Jonathan Herrera at short. It's assumed to be a normal day of rest for Bogaerts. He should return to the starting lineup Sunday.

Dodgers infielder Dee Gordon will return to the starting lineup Thursday night against Philadelphia, the team announced. He will take over the leadoff spot.

Gordon passed a concussion test after suffering a head injury while sliding into third base Tuesday night. He received the night off Wednesday against the Cole Hamels and the Phillies before returning Thursday.

Gordon is hitting .369 with one home run and six RBI in 65 at-bats.

Manager Don Mattingly told MLB.com he was simply giving Gordon a day off to rest, and was feeling no ill effects after hitting his head on an infielder's knee Tuesday.

It might just be because left-hander Cole Hamels is making his season debut, as Gordon has made just 13 plate appearances against lefties this season.

The extent of Gordon's injury is not yet known, though he will likely go through the league's concussion protocol Tuesday night. He went 2 for 3 before suffering the injury to raise his season average to .369.

Padres infielder Ryan Jackson may not need surgery after all, as MLB.com reports he has been diagnosed with a just a strain in his right wrist. It was previously reported that he would need surgery on the wrist, though further examination was needed, which he received via the team's doctors in San Diego.

Jackson is on the seven-day disabled list at Triple-A El Paso, and there is no timetable for his expected return.  

A pair of injured Giants are back in the lineup, as expected, for Friday's game against the Padres. Shortstop Brandon Crawford (hamstring) and outfielder Angel Pagan (knee) are starting Friday's game, after both sat out Thursday's due to minor injuries. Crawford had also missed Wednesday's game as a result of the injury, though his return to the lineup does not come as a surprise.
