Twins' Willi Castro: Three hits, steal in win

Castro went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base in Wednesday's 10-5 win over the White Sox.

Castro wound up a homer shy of a cycle Wednesday while recording his fifth multi-hit game during his current eight-game hitting streak. He's gone 16-for-35 (.457) over the course of the streak, boosting his slash line to .270/.339/.450 through 30 games this year. The 27-year-old Castro added two homers, 13 runs scored, 12 RBI and three stolen bases while serving as the Twins' primary third baseman in the absence of Royce Lewis (quadriceps).

  • Mets' Francisco Lindor: Removed early Wednesday

Lindor was removed from Wednesday's game against the Cubs after exhibiting flu-like symptoms, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Lindor was feeling sick ahead of the third inning and was replaced at shortstop by Joey Wendle, who could be in line to start Thursday's series finale if Lindor isn't feeling better by then. The 30-year-old All-Star went 0-for-1 before leaving Wednesday's game and now carries a .195 average on the year.

  • Jacob Amaya SS | ARI

Astros' Jacob Amaya: Recalled from Triple-A

The Astros recalled Amaya from Triple-A Sugar Land on Wednesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

With Chas McCormick (hamstring) headed for the 10-day IL, Amaya will come up from the minors to give the Astros an additional bench bat. However, the 25-year-old infielder is slashing just .190/.297/.302 across 74 plate appearances at Triple-A, so he likely won't see much playing time while with Houston.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Diamondbacks' Kevin Newman: Not in starting lineup

Newman is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's outing versus the Dodgers.

The 30-year-old infielder will get a break with Blaze Alexander starting at shortstop Wednesday as the Diamondbacks finish out their series against Los Angeles. Newman has started at shortstop in six of Arizona's last 10 games and is slashing .157/.189/.314 on the season.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: On track to begin rehab assignment

Gonzalez (wrist) is likely to begin a rehab assignment Thursday or Friday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Gonzalez's recovery from a left wrist sprain has come along more slowly than expected, but he looks to be closing in on the final step of his recovery program. He's been out since mid-April and shouldn't need too many at-bats in the minors before being activated, assuming all goes well.

  • Vaughn Grissom 2B | LAA

Red Sox's Vaughn Grissom: Aiming to be available Friday

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that he's hopeful that Grissom (hamstring/illness) will be ready to return from the 10-day injured list for Friday's game in Minnesota, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Grissom had been slated for his season and Red Sox debut Tuesday after overcoming a hamstring injury, but he's been delayed due to an illness. Once activated, Grissom is likely to serve as the Red Sox's everyday second baseman.

  • Willy Adames SS | SF

Brewers' Willy Adames: Cranks two more homers

Adames went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win over the Rays.

Adames extended the Brewers' lead to 3-0 with a solo shot off Zach Eflin in the sixth inning before breaking the game open with a three-run blast off Erasmo Ramirez in the seventh. Adames now has three homers and eight RBI in his last two contests after going 16 games without a long ball. Overall, the 28-year-old shortstop is slashing .278/.373/.496 with six homers, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored and four steals through 30 games this season.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

Marlins' Tim Anderson: Scratched from lineup

Anderson (thumb) has been scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Anderson's sprained left thumb is still a little sore, so he will miss a second straight start. The Marlins are calling Anderson's removal from the lineup precautionary, so consider him day-to-day. Vidal Brujan will fill in again at shortstop Wednesday.

  • Tim Anderson 2B | LAA

Marlins' Tim Anderson: Cleared to start Wednesday

Anderson (thumb) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Anderson was out of the lineup for Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning win due to a left thumb sprain, but he was able to enter the contest as a pinch runner in the bottom of the 10th and ended up scoring the game-tying run. He's now ready to reclaim his usual spot in the infield, after Vidal Brujan drew the start at shortstop Tuesday.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Belts second homer

Neto went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday in a loss to the Phillies.

Neto plated the Angels' first run with a 408-foot blast in the third inning. It was his second long ball over his past six games after he failed to go deep in any of his first 23 contests of the campaign. Neto has gotten off to a slow start to 2024, slashing .228/.278/.356 with eight runs, 11 RBI and four steals through 108 plate appearances. His strikeout rate sits at 30.6 percent, a significant increase over his 23.4 percent rate as a rookie last year.
