Rangers' Corey Seager: Out four weeks with hamstring issue

The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. The injury will keep Seager out for a minimum of four weeks.

Seager suffered the injury in Tuesday's 8-5 win over the Royals in the bottom of the fifth inning while he was running to second base on an opposite-field double. The four-week timeline likely represents a re-evaluation point for Seager, who could need time beyond that to regain his timing at the plate even if he's cleared to resume baseball activities at that time. While Seager is away, Josh Smith should see starts at shortstop, but the Rangers could look externally or even have Marcus Semien shift over from second base to pick up playing time at the position.

  • Andrew Pintar CF | MIA

Diamondbacks' Andrew Pintar: Healthy to open 2023 campaign

Pintar (shoulder) has appeared in four games with Single-A Visalia so far this season and has gone 2-for-14 with a walk.

Pintar, whom the Diamondbacks selected with the No. 138 overall pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, didn't make his professional debut last summer while he recovered from the shoulder surgery he underwent earlier that year in March. Now more than a year removed from the procedure, Pintar is seemingly healthy again, given that the Diamondbacks chose not to have him stick around at extended spring training.

  • Yu Chang SS | TB

Red Sox's Yu Chang: Subbing in at second base

Chang is starting at second base and batting eighth for the Red Sox in Wednesday's game in Tampa Bay.

He's filling in for Christian Arroyo, who is getting a day off. Chang is still looking for his first hit of the season, as he's 0-for-6 with four strikeouts.

  • Giants' Brandon Crawford: Connects on second homer

Crawford went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 5-0 win over the Dodgers.

David Villar and Crawford supplied back-to-back long balls in the eighth inning off reliever Evan Phillips to put the finishing touches on the shutout win. Crawford's home run ended his seven-game streak without an extra-base hit.

  • Edwin Arroyo 2B | CIN

Reds' Edwin Arroyo: Placed on minor-league IL

High-A Dayton placed Arroyo on its 7-day injured list Wednesday with a left hip strain.

Arroyo suffered the injury Saturday and will now be out through at least the end of the week. Cincinnati acquired the infielder in the 2021 deal that sent Luis Castillo to Seattle, and Arroyo has since established himself as one of the top prospects in the Reds organization as a plus defender with some offensive upside.

  • Bo Bichette SS | NYM

Blue Jays' Bo Bichette: Launches fourth homer

Bichette went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-3 win over the Tigers.

The Blue Jays put on a fireworks display in their home opener, clubbing five homers in total, and Bichette's contribution came in the eighth inning off Mason Englert. The shortstop has hit safely in five straight games, homering in three of them, and on the season Bichette is slashing .353/.389/.627 with two doubles, four long balls, nine RBI and 10 runs in 11 contests.

  • Carlos Correa SS | HOU

Twins' Carlos Correa: Good chance to play Thursday

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that prior to Wednesday's game against the White Sox that he expects Correa (back) to be back in the lineup for Thursday's series opener with the Yankees, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Baldelli noted that Correa was able to go through a workout Tuesday and will go through an "intense" day in the batting cage Wednesday as a final test. The shortstop is out of the lineup Wednesday for the third day in a row while he contends with middle-back spasms. While fantasy managers have a right to be concerned about Correa missing games in the early part of the season, Minnesota seems to be acting extra careful with the 29-year-old.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Expects to be back Friday

Swanson (side) expects to return to the Cubs' lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Swanson is out of the lineup Wednesday after exiting Tuesday's contest with a side issue, but it's been termed as merely cramping and he should be ready to roll after Thursday's off day. The big free-agent signee is off to a superb start with his new club, sporting a .400/.467/.450 batting line with two doubles and one stolen base.

  • Tommy Edman LF | LAD

Cardinals' Tommy Edman: Day off Wednesday

Edman will take a seat Wednesday versus the Rockies.

Edman will get a breather after he went 2-for-6 with a solo homer, a double, a walk and two runs scored over the first two games of the series. Brendan Donovan will draw the start at shortstop while Taylor Motter enters the lineup at third base and bats ninth in the series finale.

  • Dansby Swanson SS | CHC

Cubs' Dansby Swanson: Takes seat Wednesday

Swanson (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Swanson helped the Cubs erase a seven-run deficit Tuesday and went 4-for-4 at the dish before exiting Chicago's eventual 14-9 win in the sixth inning due to what the team termed as lower left side tightness. Manager David Ross clarified after the game that Swanson was dealing with cramping, and while the star shortstop will sit out Wednesday's series finale, he'll most likely be good to go for Friday's game in Los Angeles following a team off day Thursday. Nico Hoerner will slide over from the keystone to cover shortstop Wednesday in place of Swanson.
