  • Donovan Solano 1B | TEX

Rangers' Donovan Solano: Joining big-league club

The Rangers selected Solano's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Solano inked a minor-league contract with Texas on Sept. 9 after being released by Seattle on Sept. 1. The veteran infielder will provide the Rangers with additional depth after Josh Smith was placed on the paternity list. Nathan Eovaldi was transferred to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Solano.

  • Cole Winn SP | TEX

Rangers' Cole Winn: Lands on IL

The Rangers placed Winn on the 15-day injured list Friday with an undisclosed injury.

Winn will be joined on the injured list by Chris Martin (undisclosed), putting an early end to both pitchers' seasons. Winn was extremely effective for the big club this year, turning in a 1.51 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 41.2 innings. Jose Corniell and Luis Curvelo were recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in corresponding moves.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Placed on IL

The Rangers placed Martin (undisclosed) on the 15-day injured list Friday.

It's unclear if Martin's move to the IL is related to the right hand injury he suffered Sept. 14, but the Rangers should provide some clarity in the near future. Either way, he'll remain sidelined for the rest of 2025 and finish the season with a 2.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 42.1 innings. With Cole Winn (undisclosed) also moving to the IL, Texas will promote Jose Corniell and Luis Curvelo from Triple-A to fill the open roster spots.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: On paternity list

The Rangers placed Smith on the paternity list Friday.

Smith didn't travel with the team for the Rangers' final series of the regular season as he awaits the birth of his child. Friday's move opens up a spot on the active roster for Donovan Solano, who's been recalled from Triple-A Round Rock. Smith can remain on the paternity list through Sunday's regular-season finale.

  • Jesus Sanchez RF | HOU

    Astros' Jesus Sanchez: Idle Friday

Sanchez isn't in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Angels, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Sanchez will take a day to reset Friday after going just 1-for-18 across his last seven contests. Mauricio Dubon will fill in as the Astros' left fielder and bat ninth.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: On bench Friday

Pena (oblique) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Pena is working through a strained left oblique that has caused him pain while taking mild swings. It's unclear if the Astros are contemplating putting Pena on the injured list, but the shortstop has been out of the lineup for five consecutive games.

  • Tarik Skubal SP | DET

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: May not pitch Sunday

Skubal is slated to start in Sunday's regular-season finale against the Red Sox, but he will only pitch if the Tigers are still playing for a playoff spot, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

"It's pretty clear. If we need Sunday to get into the playoffs, we're going to pitch [Skubal]. If we've clinched the playoff berth, then he won't pitch," Tigers manager A.J. Hinch relayed Friday. The Tigers can clinch a postseason berth as soon as Friday with a win over the Red Sox and an Astros loss to the Angels, per ESPN. Skubal has logged seven quality starts over his last eight outings and has a 2.18 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 88:17 K:BB over 74.1 innings across 12 starts since the All-Star break.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: On bench Friday

Massey is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Athletics.

Massey will start Friday's game on the bench even as the Royals go up against a right-hander (Mason Barnett). Jonathan India will step in at second base and bat seventh.

  • Josh H. Smith SS | TEX

Rangers' Josh Smith: Didn't travel with team

Smith didn't travel with the Rangers to Cleveland for personal reasons, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Smith and his wife are expecting a child, and Smith didn't travel with the team as he awaits the new addition to his family. The Rangers have already been eliminated from postseason eligibility, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Smith sit out the final few games.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

Angels' Yoan Moncada: Getting breather Friday

Moncada isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Moncada will sit down for Friday's contest after going 1-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts during the Angels' previous series against Kansas City. Luis Rengifo will get the nod at third base instead and bat fifth.
