Angels' Yoan Moncada: Progresses to running, hitting

Moncada (knee) has been running and hitting off a tee from the left side, per MLB.com.

Moncada was placed on the 10-day IL on May 22 due to right knee inflammation. He's since been able to resume doing some running and hitting, though it's unclear how close he is to returning to game action. Donovan Walton and Nick Madrigal have been handling third base for the Angels while Moncada has been sidelined.

  • Joe La Sorsa RP | BOS

Red Sox's Joe La Sorsa: Sent out to Triple-A

The Red Sox optioned La Sorsa to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.

La Sorsa was just added to the Boston roster last week and made just one appearance, giving up a solo home run to one of the two batters he faced. The lefty reliever is being replaced on the active roster by utility player Nate Eaton, who was recalled from Worcester.

  • Clarke Schmidt SP | NYY

Yankees' Clarke Schmidt: Could face hitters in late June

Schmidt (elbow) has been "feeling great" during recent mound sessions and could start throwing to hitters by the end of June, per MLB.com.

Schmidt continues to recover from the internal brace procedure he underwent last July. The right-handed hurler has been throwing from a mound since early April and most recently had a 20-pitch session. If all goes well moving forward, Schmidt could be ready to be activated from the 60-day IL sometime in August.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: MRI returns negative

Wells' (headaches) MRI on Tuesday came back negative, per MLB.com.

Wells was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to cervical headaches. He'd already received a negative concussion test, and now an MRI has also returned clean. Wells isn't traveling with the team on its current road trip, and it remains to be seen if he'll need more than a minimum IL stay.

  • Jon Heasley RP | TB

Rays' Jonathan Heasley: Shuttled to 60-day IL

The Rays transferred Heasley (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Initially deactivated last Tuesday after being diagnosed with a right elbow stress reaction, Heasley still remains without a clear timeline for a return, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures he'll be shelved through at least July 27. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the Rays selected outfielder Austin Slater's contract from Triple-A Durham.

  • Rays' Austin Slater: Officially added to roster

The Rays selected Slater's contract from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

The Rays are scheduled to face all lefty starting pitchers during their three-game set versus the Red Sox, so the right-handed-hitting Slater should be busy. He's sporting an underwhelming .209/.286/.233 batting line through 49 plate appearances in the majors this season.

  • Oliver Dunn SS | TB

Rays' Oliver Dunn: Sent back to minors

The Rays optioned Dunn to Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Dunn made only one start during his two-plus weeks with the big club and was just 1-for-11 at the plate in nine contests. He's being sent out in favor of Austin Slater.

  • Trey Gibson SP | BAL

Orioles' Trey Gibson: Called up, drawing start Monday

The Orioles recalled Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk and will have him start Monday's game against the Mariners at Camden Yards.

The 24-year-old righty will be entering the Baltimore rotation as a replacement for right-hander Chris Bassitt (back), who was moved to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Gibson is up with the Orioles for his fourth stint of the season, after previously turning in a 3.65 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 5:7 K:BB in 12.1 innings over his first three big-league appearances (two starts).

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Orioles' Chris Bassitt: Shelved with back discomfort

The Orioles placed Bassitt on the 15-day injured list Monday due to low back discomfort.

Bassitt was lifted early from his last start Wednesday in Boston due to a tight back, but after briefly returning to Baltimore to get examined, he rejoined the Orioles over the weekend for their road series in Toronto. Though the righty appeared to be trending toward taking the hill for his next turn in the rotation Monday versus the Mariners, the Orioles instead have opted to place him on the IL to give him more time to move past the back issue. Trey Gibson was called up from Triple-A Norfolk and will draw the start Monday in place of Bassitt, who will be eligible to return from the IL beginning June 20. Per Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun, manager Craig Albernaz said Bassitt is still "looking at his options" for a treatment plan for the injury and is scheduled to receive a second opinion later this week.

  • Nathan Eaton LF | BOS

Red Sox's Nate Eaton: Set to join Boston

The Red Sox are expected to recall Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Eaton is with the team in Tampa Bay ahead of the Red Sox's three-game set versus the Rays. The 29-year-old utility man appeared in 41 games with Boston last season and showed well at the plate, slashing .296/.348/.383 with one home run, four RBI, 16 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a 6:19 BB:K across 90 plate appearances. Though he was previously up with the Red Sox for a brief time in late April, he didn't see any action before being optioned back to Worcester, where he's produced a .798 OPS over 205 plate appearances on the season. Eaton will provide the Red Sox with some added versatility off the bench and could end up seeing regular starts versus left-handed pitching.
