Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Closing in on rehab assignment

Wilson (shoulder) has been ramping up his baseball activities and could begin a rehab assignment next week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Wilson continues to progress in his recovery from a left shoulder injury that landed him on the 10-day injured list in mid-May. Once he's cleared for a rehab assignment, the Athletics will have a better sense of when Wilson will return to the majors. Prior to his IL stint, the 24-year-old shortstop was slashing .292/.311/.398 with two steals, three home runs and 19 RBI in 168 plate appearances.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

Yankees' Amed Rosario: Placed on paternity list

The Yankees placed Rosario on the paternity list prior to Saturday's game against the Athletics.

Rosario can be away from the Yankees for up to three days while on the paternity list, meaning he'll likely be back for Tuesday's series opener against the Guardians. The veteran utility man has gone 9-for-31 (.290) with two home runs, seven RBI and six runs scored in 11 games since May 1.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Dealing with whiplash

Neto was removed from Saturday's 14-3 win against the Rays due to whiplash, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Neto collided with Ian Seymour at home plate on a wild pitch in the seventh inning, which led to the former being helped off the field after being evaluated by medical staff. If Neto is unable to play in Sunday's series finale, then Oswald Peraza or Donovan Walton would likely draw the start at shortstop.

  • Orioles' Samuel Basallo: Nursing pectoral injury

Basallo tweaked a pectoral muscle during his plate appearance in the ninth inning of Saturday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Basallo sustained the injury when he struck out swinging in the ninth, though Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said after Saturday's game that Basallo would have batted again if the order came up. That could mean that Basallo will be in the lineup for Sunday's series finale against Toronto, but if he's unable to play, then Tyler O'Neill could serve as the team's designated hitter. Basallo went 1-for-2 with two walks in Saturday's win.

  • Jose Caballero SS | NYY

Yankees' Jose Caballero: Not in Saturday's lineup

Caballero is not in the Yankees' starting lineup against the Athletics on Saturday.

Caballero went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Friday's series opener, but he'll get a breather for Saturday night's contest. Anthony Volpe will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Zachary Neto SS | LAA

Angels' Zach Neto: Helped off field Saturday

Neto was removed from Saturday's game against the Rays after colliding with Ian Seymour, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Neto scored on a wild pitch during the top of the seventh inning, though he did so while colliding with pitcher Ian Seymour at the plate. Neto's head seemed to take the brunt of the impact, and he remained on the ground for a while before walking off the field with assistance. The Angels will likely put him through concussion protocol, and if he needs to spend time on the injured list, Oswald Peraza and Donovan Walton should be in the mix at shortstop.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Out of Saturday's lineup

McNeil is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Yankees on Saturday.

The Yankees are sending southpaw Ryan Weathers to the mound, so the lefty-hitting McNeil -- who has gone 1-for-19 over his last six games -- will open Saturday's contest on the bench. Alika Williams will start at second base and bat ninth.

  • Carlos Cortes RF | ATH

Athletics' Carlos Cortes: Sitting again Saturday

Cortes is not in the Athletics' starting lineup against the Yankees on Saturday.

Cortes is out of the A's lineup for a second consecutive game, though the Yankees are sending southpaw Ryan Weathers to the mound for Saturday's contest. Colby Thomas will draw the start in right field and bat out of the leadoff spot.

  • Angel Martinez LF | CLE

Guardians' Angel Martinez: Leaves game with foot inflammation

Martinez was removed from Saturday's game against the Red Sox with left foot inflammation, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

It's unknown whether Martinez's foot will cause him to miss time beyond Saturday, but the Guardians will likely send him in for medical testing and should provide more information soon. Stuart Fairchild entered the game as Martinez's replacement and would be the favorite to pick up starts in the outfield during his possible absence.

  • Astros' Braden Shewmake: Battling groin soreness

Shewmake was removed from Saturday's game against the Brewers with right groin soreness.

Shewmake went 0-for-2 with a strikeout before leaving the game in the fifth inning. The Astros may have more information regarding the 28-year-old's status after the game. Nick Allen could be in line for reps at the keystone if Shewmake ends up needing to miss time.
