  • Wenceel Perez RF | DET

Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Goes deep in loss

Perez went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Angels.

It's been a struggle overall for Perez, who is batting just .167 with a .492 OPS. However, with Javier Baez (ankle) and Kerry Carpenter (shoulder) currently on the 10-day injured list, and Parker Meadows (arm) on the 60-day injured list, the Tigers are a bit thin in the outfield. That's opened up more playing time for Perez, who showed last season that he's capable of decent offensive production in a starting role.

  • Tigers' Kevin McGonigle: Tallies three hits in loss

McGonigle went 3-for-4 with a walk, a triple, a run scored and two RBI in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Angels.

While Detroit has been struggling recently, McGonigle remains a bright spot. The rookie infielder is now riding a five-game hitting streak and has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 contests. Overall, McGonigle is slashing a robust .291/.395/.427 across 53 games, and it looks like the Tigers have found a reliable leadoff hitter and offensive weapon for years to come.

  • Ty Madden RP | DET

Tigers' Ty Madden: Reaches fifth inning in rehab start

Madden (forearm) covered 4.1 innings and allowed one earned run on four hits and three walks while striking out three batters Monday in a rehab start with Triple-A Toledo.

Madden landed on the 15-day injured list May 17 due to a right forearm contusion, but he looks like he'll be ready to return when he's first eligible or shortly thereafter. Per MLB.com, the Tigers are still deciding whether he'll be activated Sunday or stick around at Toledo for another start. Madden posted a 2.45 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in his first two outings as a bulk reliever before landing on the shelf, but Detroit may not have room in the rotation for the right-hander once he returns after the Tigers got Troy Melton back from the IL over the weekend. Tarik Skubal (elbow) and Justin Verlander (hip) also appear to be trending toward returns from the IL in the next few weeks.

  • Bailey Horn P | DET

    Tigers' Bailey Horn: Throwing again

Horn (elbow) began a throwing progression May 14, MLB.com reports.

Horn received a cortisone shot in mid-April to combat discomfort in his left elbow, which he had scoped during the offseason. The injection appears to have done its job, but Horn could be ramped up slowly in his throwing program after the Tigers pulled him off his rehab assignment earlier this season. He'll eventually head back out on another rehab assignment and may need most of the 30-day window before Detroit brings him back from the 60-day injured list.

  • Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Could face live pitching Wednesday

Carpenter (shoulder) could be cleared to take live batting practice Wednesday, MLB.com reports.

Carpenter was able to shag flyballs and take some swings in the batting cage Tuesday as part of his return-to-play progression and could take another step forward Wednesday. He's been on the shelf since May 10 due to an AC joint sprain in his left shoulder and may require a rehab assignment prior to being activated.

  • Nate Snead SP | LAA

Angels' Nate Snead: Pushed up to Double-A

The Angels promoted Snead from High-A Tri-City to Double-A Rocket City on Tuesday.

A third-round pick in 2025, Snead had been one of the more dominant arms in the Northwest League to begin the season. Over his seven starts for Tri-City, the 22-year-old righty submitted a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 24.3 K-BB% across 35.1 innings.

  • Dylan Cease SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Dylan Cease: Plays catch Tuesday

Cease (hamstring) was able to play light catch Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

While Cease's ability to play catch one day after landing on the injured list is an encouraging sign, the Blue Jays likely won't have a good feel for how much time his strained left hamstring will keep him on the shelf until he resumes taking part in fielding and running drills. For his part, Cease has optimism that he'll be in line for a minimum-length stay on the IL, which could allow him to return to the Toronto rotation as soon as June 9.

  • Griffin Jax SP | TB

Rays' Griffin Jax: Day-to-day with back bruise

Jax was diagnosed with a back contusion following his removal from Tuesday's game against Baltimore, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Jax was hit on the back by a 107.2-mph line drive in the second inning and was pulled when the Rays took the field for the third. His diagnosis suggests that he didn't suffer any structural damage as a result of the incident. However, the team will likely keep an eye on him over the next couple of days before confirming him for his next start -- tentatively slated to come against the Tigers on Monday.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Athletics' Luis Severino: Next start pushed to Friday

Severino is scheduled to make his next start Friday versus the Yankees in Sacramento, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander had been on track to take the hill Tuesday against the Mariners, but he'll wind up getting pushed back a few days in the pitching schedule as the Athletics make room in the rotation for lefty Gage Jump, who was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas. With Jump now slated to start Tuesday and Jeffrey Springs in line to start Wednesday's series finale with Seattle, Severino will wind up getting the ball Friday on seven days' rest in a matchup versus one of his former squads. The extra downtime could prove beneficial for Severino, who racked up a season-high 10 punchouts in his previous start last Thursday in Anaheim.

  • Denzel Clarke OF | ATH

Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Heads to 60-day IL

The Athletics transferred Clarke (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Tuesday.

Initially placed on the IL on April 22 due to a deep bone bruise in his right foot, Clarke suffered a high-grade left hamstring strain last week during his rehab assignment and isn't scheduled to be re-evaluated until after the All-Star break. With that in mind, Clarke's move to the 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return and is merely a procedural transaction. The Athletics replaced Clarke on the 40-man roster with left-hander Gage Jump, who was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas to make his MLB debut Tuesday against the Mariners.
