Effross (oblique) was activated from the 7-day injured list Wednesday.

Effross has pitched in two games since his return from the injured list. He's tossed 1.2 scoreless frames while allowing three hits and striking out two for Triple-A Toledo.

Leiter (1-2) took the loss against the Yankees on Monday, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk while striking out four batters over six innings.

All four runs Leiter gave up came across the third and fourth innings, and all four were courtesy of the long ball. It was the first time the right-hander gave up more than two homers in a game this season, and it snapped a string of two straight homerless outings by Leiter. He did tie a season high by completing six frames, but Leiter has now given up at least three earned runs in four straight starts. He'll carry an unhappy 5.17 ERA into his next start, which lines up to be a road matchup against the Tigers.

Gaddis (0-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Monday against the Rays, allowing two runs on three hits and no walks in one-third of an inning.

After recorded the final out of the seventh inning, Gaddis served up a game-tying home run to Jonathan Aranda was then unable to retire a batter in the eighth frame. The 28-year-old right-hander is off to a rocky start following a delayed start to the season due to forearm tightness, logging a 6.75 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 6:1 K:BB over 5.1 innings as a setup man for the Guardians.

Bednar earned a save against the Rangers on Monday, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out one batter over one inning.

Bednar entered in the ninth inning with New York holding a three-run lead. He gave up a leadoff single to begin the frame and then retired the next two batters. Bednar appeared to have the game wrapped up when Josh Smith hit a grounder to second base with two outs, but Jazz Chisholm booted the ball, and Texas scored when the next batter hit a single. However, Bednar was able to get the third out to wrap up the New York win. He's converted eight saves (on nine chances) this season and ranks second in MLB in that category.

Baker notched the save Monday against the Guardians, allowing two hits and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out two.

The right-hander did allow the possible tying and go-ahead runs to get into scoring position, but he was able to get two clutch strikeouts to finish off Cleveland. With Edwin Uceta (shoulder) out for at least another month and Griffin Jax quickly falling out of favor as the Rays' closer, Baker is solidifying his grip as Tampa Bay's primary ninth-inning option. Through 11.1 frames, Baker owns a 3.18 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB while converting seven of his nine save chances.

Fried (4-1) earned the victory versus Texas on Monday, allowing four hits and issuing two walks while striking out five batters over six scoreless innings.

All four hits Fried surrendered were singles, and he didn't allow any Rangers to reach second base. He finished with his second straight scoreless outing and his fourth overall through seven starts this season. Fried has logged a quality start in six of his seven appearances -- he leads the league in that category while posting a 2.09 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 47.1 frames. He's working on a string of 14 straight scoreless frames, which he'll look to extend in his text start, tentatively slated to come at home versus Baltimore.

Messick took a no-decision Monday against the Rays, allowing one run on three hits and two walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out nine.

Messick continues to provide the Guardians with plenty of length, working at least five innings in his sixth straight start to begin the year. Additionally, the nine punchouts matched a season high, and the southpaw has given up more than two runs on just one occasion to this point. Messick carries a 1.73 ERA, the second-best mark in the American League behind only Jose Soriano among qualifiers, 0.88 WHIP and 38:10 K:BB across 36.1 frames ahead of a scheduled matchup with the Athletics this weekend.

Stanton was diagnosed with a low-grade calf strain Monday and will be placed on the 10-day injured list, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Stanton was sent for an MRI earlier in the day, and the scans confirmed that he'll require a stint on the IL. Jasson Dominguez was penciled into the DH slot for Monday's game against the Rangers, and he could be in line for regular at-bats while Stanton recovers. Randal Grichuk and Amed Rosario are also candidates to see more opportunities in Stanton's absence.

Cease (1-1) took the loss against Boston on Monday, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five batters over 5.2 innings.

Cease got through three scoreless frames before things unraveled for him. He gave up a run in the fourth, two more in fifth and another in the sixth before being pulled. The veteran righty induced a decent 13 whiffs, but his five punchouts were his fewest in a start so far this season. Cease still ranks second in MLB with 49 punchouts and has a 2.87 ERA through 31.1 innings, so the beginning of his Toronto tenure has been successful overall. His next start is projected to be a road tilt in Minnesota.

Matz (4-1) notched the win Monday against the Guardians, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk in seven innings. He struck out two.

Matz did serve up a two-run home run to Daniel Schneemann in the fifth inning, but it was smooth sailing otherwise for the hurler. The 34-year-old southpaw turned in his longest outing of the campaign so far, though the two strikeouts did match a season low. Matz has been serviceable for the Rays during his transition back into a starter, posting a 4.31 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 27:11 K:BB over 31.1 frames, and he should hold onto streaming appeal with a home start against the Giants on tap for this weekend.
