Waldschmidt is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Phillies.

Waldschmidt started each of the previous four contests, but he will begin Wednesday's festivities on the bench. Jordan Lawlar will be in center field and Lars Nootbaar will cover left field in the series finale.

Marte is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Phillies.

Marte started the first two games of the series after returning from the injured list Monday, but he'll exit the lineup for Wednesday's matinee. Ildemaro Vargas will cover second base for the Diamondbacks.

Carroll (back) will start in right field and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo noted after Tuesday's contest that Carroll is dealing with lower-back discomfort. However, Carroll played all nine innings Tuesday and is back in there for Wednesday's afternoon tilt.

Wetherholt was given a cortisone injection Tuesday to combat tendinitis in his right wrist, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Wetherholt will rest for 72 hours to wait for the shot to take effect, and after that he will aim to re-incorporate baseball activities. The rookie infielder is with the Cardinals on their road trip and is eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list on the final day of that trip Sept. 9. Wetherholt could be activated on that date, but it will depend on how his wrist responds.

Young is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against Atlanta.

Young picked up two hits, drove in a run and scored a run in Tuesday's game, but he'll exit the lineup for Wednesday's matinee. Dylan Crews will shift over to center field while Young gets a breather.

House is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus Atlanta.

House handled third base each of the last two days, but he will exit the lineup during Wednesday's afternoon tilt. Andres Chaparro will grab a start at third base for the Nationals.

Lindor went 1-for-3 with a walk, a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Rays.

The star shortstop carried the Mets' offense on the night, leading off the game with a solo shot against former teammate Freddy Peralta before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the seventh off Tyler Wells. Lindor has gone yard three times in the last eight games, giving him 15 homers on the season, but he's managed just a .175/.254/.368 slash line over his last 15 contests as New York limps to the finish line of a disappointing campaign.

Manaea (4-7) took the loss Tuesday, giving up five runs on 11 hits and a walk over 5.2 innings as the Mets fell 6-2 to the Rays. He struck out two.

It was the first time all season Manaea had allowed double-digit hits and four of them went for extra bases, including a Yandy Diaz solo shot in the sixth inning that helped chase the veteran lefty from the game. Manaea's midseason resurgence seems to have petered out -- he's been tagged for at least four earned runs in four straight trips to the mound, sagging to a 7.23 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB over 23.2 innings during that stretch. He'll try to turn things around in his next start, which lines up to come on the road early next week in Miami.

Gonzales went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Tuesday's 13-12 win over the Giants.

Getting a rare start at DH and hitting cleanup, Gonzales was one of five Pirates with multiple hits on the night. The 27-year-old infielder has been swinging a hot bat all season, and over his last 20 games he's slashing .333/.435/.403 with five doubles, two steals, six runs and eight RBI. Gonzales still doesn't offer much power, however -- his homer drought stands at 33 games, and he has just six long balls in 536 plate appearances on the year.

The Nationals designated Cosgrove for assignment Wednesday.

Cosgrove had allowed three runs in consecutive appearances and given up 13 runs (11 earned) over his last 5.2 innings. There's a good chance the lefty reliever will clear waivers.
