Palencia (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Saturday and allowed one unearned run on two hits while striking out two batters in two-thirds of an inning.

Iowa's season will come to an end Sunday, so Palencia may need to face hitters in a simulated game or two to prove his right shoulder strain is no longer a concern before the Cubs bring him back from the injured list. Prior to suffering the injury and landing on the shelf Sept. 8, Palencia led the Cubs with 22 saves. Brad Keller and Andrew Kittredge have been sharing the closer's role in Palencia's absence.

The Cubs activated Morgan (elbow) from the 60-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.

Morgan had been on the shelf since mid-April with an elbow impingement. He's healthy again after submitting a 1.69 ERA in 10.2 innings over a nine-appearance rehab assignment at Iowa, but he'll end up sticking around at the Triple-A level since the Cubs don't have room for him in the big-league bullpen at the moment.

Bohm went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Bohm has gone 4-for-9 with two extra-base hits and four RBI over two games since he returned from a shoulder injury that led to a minimal stay on the injured list. The third baseman is up to 10 long balls on the year, with this one being his first since Aug. 17 versus the Nationals. He's added a .275/.321/.394 slash line with 55 RBI, 49 runs scored and two stolen bases over 113 contests this season.

Nola (4-10) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four over 5.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Nola had a lead to work with after Alec Bohm put the Phillies ahead in the fourth inning, but the Diamondbacks were able to scrape together a pair of runs in the sixth. That saddled Nola with his third loss over four outings in September, and he's now allowed 16 runs over 22.1 innings this month. The veteran right-hander has a 6.46 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 88:28 K:BB through 86.1 innings across 16 starts this season. This is the first year since 2016 he's had to contend with significant injury issues, and he's been inconsistent since returning from a right ankle sprain and stress fracture in his rib in August. His last start of the regular season is projected to be at home versus the Twins, but his recent poor pitching casts doubt that he'll be a starter in the playoffs.

Stott went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks.

With Trea Turner (hamstring) and Edmundo Sosa (groin) both on the injured list, Stott has started each of Philadelphia's last eight games to help pick up the slack. Stott had a weak .645 OPS through July 30, but he's fared far better at the dish ever since. Over his last 150 plate appearances, he's slashing .321/.393/.519 with 15 extra-base hits, 24 RBI, 21 runs scored and seven stolen bases to raise his OPS to .719 for the year.

Trivino allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless seventh inning Saturday against the Diamondbacks.

Trivino has bounced around with three teams in 2025, but he's settled in with the Phillies nicely thus far. Through his first 6.2 innings with Philadelphia, the veteran right-hander has a 1.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB. Trivino may not be able to work his way into the high-leverage picture consistently, but he offers Philly's revamped bullpen another arm with late-inning experience.

McCarthy went 3-for-4 with a double and one run scored in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies.

McCarthy had gone just 1-for-16 over his previous five games. The outfielder has filled a strong-side platoon role down the stretch as the Diamondbacks' primary option in left field. He's up to a .209/.255/.335 slash line with three home runs, 19 RBI, 17 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples and six stolen bases over 207 plate appearances this season.

Curtiss allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Phillies.

Curtiss is the 17th player to log a save for the Diamondbacks this season, which has seen the team take a closing committee to the extreme. Andrew Saalfrank has been bothered by shoulder fatigue recently and may not have been available, as he was not deployed despite his last appearance being Tuesday. Curtiss was hit hard in an outing Wednesday versus the Giants, allowing five runs (four earned) without recording an out, but he bounced back well. He's pitched to a 3.86 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB through 35 innings while adding a save and four holds.

Gallen (13-14) allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out nine over seven innings to earn the win Saturday over the Phillies.

The nine strikeouts were the most Gallen has had in a start since July 7 versus the Padres. This was his sixth quality start in his last seven outings, and it was the first time he's completed seven frames since July 1 against the Giants. Gallen is ending the year strong, though his early struggles are evident in his 4.70 ERA and 1.24 WHIP through 187.2 innings. Gallen also allowed 30 homers in a season for the first time in his career when he gave up a solo shot to Alec Bohm in the fourth inning, giving Gallen the third-most homers allowed by a qualified starting pitcher this season. The right-hander's regular season is projected to come to a close with a home start versus the Dodgers next week.

O'Hearn went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in Saturday's 7-3 win over the White Sox.

It was the fourth three-RBI effort of the season by O'Hearn, who also knocked at least three hits for the seventh time in 2025. The All-Star slugger has found himself in quite the tailspin at the plate -- he has a .529 OPS in September -- though he doesn't appear to be in immediate danger of losing action as the designated hitter. Gavin Sheets, who's O'Hearn's main threat to playing time, has a .589 OPS this month.
