Pfaadt didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 5-1, extra-innings loss to the Giants, allowing just one hit and one walk over nine scoreless innings. He struck out seven.

Had he gotten any run support at all, Pfaadt would have delivered his first career shutout on 97 pitches (65 strikes) in the best performance of his career. Instead, the right-hander had to settle for a no-decision as neither offense woke up until the 11th inning. Pfaadt has produced two quality starts in three September outings, but he got tagged for five runs ove 4.2 frames in the other start, and since the beginning of August he carries a 4.83 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 40:10 K:BB over 50.1 innings even with Wednesday's stellar effort. He'll try to continue wrapping up his regular season on a high note in his next trip to the mound, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Dodgers.

Verlander came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's 5-1 extra-innings win over Arizona, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. He struck out three.

The 42-year-old right-hander fired 67 of 107 pitches for strikes as he gave up two runs or fewer for a fifth straight start, but he got stuck with a no-decision since neither team's offense woke up until the 11th inning. Verlander has re-discovered something close to his old Cy Young form at the right time for the Giants as they try to claw their way into a wild-card spot, and over that five-start hot streak he sports a 0.87 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 28:12 K:BB in 31 innings. Verlander will try to stay locked in for his next trip to the mound, which lines up to come at home early next week against the Cardinals.

Realmuto (illness) will start at catcher and bat fourth Wednesday against the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

After sitting out Tuesday's contest due to an illness, Realmuto seems to be feeling well enough to return to the starting nine Wednesday. The 34-year-old backstop has been in a rough patch at the plate recently, slashing .233/.327/.326 across 52 plate appearances since the start of September.

Edwards (wrist) isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus Colorado.

Edwards is now set to miss his fourth straight game due to right wrist soreness, and the Marlins may begin to consider placing him on the injured list if he isn't able to return soon. Javier Sanoja will make another start at second base and bat ninth.

The Brewers reinstated Mears (back) from the injured list Wednesday.

Mears will rejoin the Brewers' bullpen following a minimum-length stay on the injured list. The 28-year-old should be a candidate for holds during the final week-plus of the regular season, while most of the save chances will likely go to Abner Uribe until Trevor Megill (elbow) returns. Jose Quintana (calf) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

The Brewers placed Quintana on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to Sept. 15, due to a left calf strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Quintana was able to play catch with no apparent issues Tuesday, which seemed set him up to make his next turn through the rotation this weekend in St. Louis. The veteran left-hander was scheduled to do some running Wednesday which presumably didn't go well, and he will end up missing the rest of the regular season. Quintana will be eligible to be reinstated Sept. 30, so he could be back on the active roster for the start of the playoffs with a minimum-length stay on the shelf.

Collins isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Angels.

Wednesday marks the second consecutive game that Collins will begin on the bench after logging just two hits over his last six contests. While he sits, Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick will start across the outfield for Milwaukee.

Ortiz isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.

Ortiz will receive a day off Wednesday after going 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's series opener. Andruw Monasterio will replace him at shortstop and bat ninth.

Steer went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five total RBI in Wednesday's 6-2 win over St. Louis.

Steer got the Reds on the board in the fourth inning with a 411-foot blast off Andre Pallante before extending the lead to 6-2 with a two-run single in the seventh. Steer, who had missed Cincinnati's previous three games due to neck spasms, has gone 13-for-43 (.302) in his last 15 contests, though he's found himself in a platoon role recently with Sal Stewart. Overall, Steer is slashing .242/.311/.405 with 18 homers, 69 RBI, 62 runs scored and seven steals across 528 plate appearances this season.

Bart went 1-for-4 with a three-run homer in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Cubs.

Bart got Pittsburgh on the board in the first inning with a two-out, 419-foot blast off Matthew Boyd, his third homer of the year and his first in 19 games. Bart had gone just 1-for-14 in his last seven contests coming into Wednesday. Overall, he's batting .240 with a .671 OPS, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored across 317 plate appearances this season.
