  • Mets' Hayden Senger: Receives call-up

The Mets recalled Senger from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday.

Senger joined the big club after top backstop Francisco Alvarez (knee) was diagnosed with a torn meniscus and moved to the 10-day injured list. With Alvarez likely to be shelved for at least a month, Senger should be in store for an extended stint with the big club. Even so, Senger may get just a couple starts per week, as Luis Torrens is expected to settle in as the Mets' new primary catcher in Alvarez's absence.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Shelved with meniscus tear

The Mets placed Alvarez on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a right meniscus tear.

Alvarez sustained the injury during the sixth inning of the Mets' 10-2 win over the Tigers on Tuesday, when he twisted his right leg on a swing. He was diagnosed with the meniscus tear following an MRI on Wednesday and will now be sidelined indefinitely. A clearer timeline for Alvarez's return should be known once the Mets determine whether he'll require a partial or total meniscectomy to address the injury; a partial meniscectomy or trim would likely allow Alvarez to return in 4-to-6 weeks, whereas a full meniscus repair would keep him on the shelf for multiple months and potentially the rest of the season. New York called up Hayden Senger from Triple-A Syracuse to provide another option at catcher, but Luis Torrens should be in line to take over as the Mets' primary backstop.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Reds' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Losing out on playing time

Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals.

Hayes is under contract through 2029, but the Reds may already be looking to pull the plug on him as an everyday player. He'll be on the bench against a right-handed starter (Jake Irvin) for the third time in seven games, clearing the way for Will Benson to enter the lineup. Hayes remains a reliable defender at the hot corner, but his .191 wOBA places him last among the 239 hitters who have logged at least 100 plate appearances this season.

  • Will Benson RF | CIN

Reds' Will Benson: Occupying leadoff spot Wednesday

Benson will start in right field and bat leadoff in Wednesday's game against the Nationals, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

After winning their final two games of the past weekend to bring an end to an eight-game losing streak, the Reds returned to their losing ways in Tuesday's series opener, falling 10-4 to the Nationals. The loss has prompted manager Terry Francona to shake up the lineup, with Benson ascending to the leadoff spot and TJ Friedl dropping to eighth in the batting order. Benson is hitting just .227 in May, but he's drawn six walks on the month to prop his on-base percentage up to .414. Benson will be making his fourth straight start Wednesday and will stick in the lineup over Ke'Bryan Hayes, who brings an elite glove at third base but has been one of the majors' worst-performing regulars in 2026 with a .191 wOBA over 38 games.

  • Brady Singer SP | CIN

Reds' Brady Singer: Optimistic about making next start

Singer is hopeful of making his next start despite being hit in the right foot by a comebacker during Tuesday's outing versus the Nationals, Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati reports.

A 106.7-mph comebacker off the bat of Daylen Lile in the second inning caught Singer in the foot. He stayed in the game but allowed five of the next 12 batters to reach base and three of them to score, so he might have been affected by the injury. However, Singer feels better than expected Wednesday, and it seems he should be good to go Sunday in Cleveland, barring a setback.

  • Chris Paddack SP | CIN

Reds' Chris Paddack: Signs, making Reds debut Saturday

Paddack signed a one-year deal with the Reds on Wednesday and is slated to start Saturday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.

Paddack will be taking over the rotation spot of Rhett Lowder (shoulder), who was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday in a corresponding transaction. Though the 30-year-old righty will provide the Reds with a battle-tested arm at the back end of the rotation, he'll need to display vastly improved form with his new club to ensure he maintains a starting role on anything more than a short-term basis. Paddack won a spot in the Miami rotation coming out of spring training but went 0-5 with a 7.63 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB over 30.2 innings before the Marlins cut him loose last week.

  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Reds' P.J. Higgins: Moved off 40-man roster

The Reds designated HIggins for assignment Wednesday.

Cincinnati moved Higgins off its 40-man roster to free up a spot for right-hander Chris Paddack, who inked a one-year deal with the Reds on Wednesday. Higgins had been playing at Triple-A Louisville for the past two and a half weeks but was up with the Reds earlier in April, going 2-for-10 with a walk and an RBI over six games during his brief time in the majors.

  • Rhett Lowder SP | CIN

Reds' Rhett Lowder: Move to IL made official

The Reds placed Lowder on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right shoulder discomfort.

Lowder was forced to exit his start last Thursday with right shoulder trouble and was subsequently given an injection in the AC joint. He does not have any structural damage, so Lowder has a chance to return soon, but it will depend on how he does after he's cleared to ramp up throwing again. Chris Paddack was signed to take Lowder's roster spot and should also hold down a slot in the rotation while Lowder is out.

  • Willi Castro LF | COL

Rockies' Willi Castro: Receiving evening off

Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Castro will take a seat Wednesday after he had been included in the lineup for each of the last five games while making starts at all four infield spots. Despite not having a permanent home at any one position, Castro has handled a near-everyday role for the Rockies this season and has turned in a .241/.303/.339 slash line to go with two home runs, three stolen bases, 17 runs and 13 RBI over 122 plate appearances.

  • Hunter Goodman RF | COL

Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Taking seat Wednesday

Goodman is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Pittsburgh.

Goodman had started each of the last four games -- including three at catcher -- so he will get some rest Wednesday. Brett Sullivan will be behind the dish and bat ninth for the Rockies.
