Busch is absent from the Cubs' lineup against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Busch will ride the bench for Sunday's rubber match with St. Louis despite recording at least one hit in seven of his last eight games. Pedro Ramirez will man first base and bat sixth for the Cubs.

Yelich is out of the lineup Sunday against the Dodgers.

After drawing a start against southpaw Justin Wrobleski in Saturday's 4-1 win, the left-handed-hitting Yelich will move to the bench for the series finale while the Dodgers send another lefty (Tarik Skubal) to the hill. William Contreras will replace Yelich as the Brewers' designated hitter.

Turang (knee) is out of the lineup for Sunday's matinee with the Dodgers.

Turang will be left on the bench for a fourth consecutive game Sunday as he continues to deal with discomfort in his left knee. Per MLB.com, Turang was able to take part in an on-field workout prior to Saturday's 4-1 win and was available off the bench, so the Brewers are seemingly hopeful that he'll be feeling well enough to re-enter the lineup for Tuesday's series opener versus the Mariners.

Tovar is absent from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Tovar has shown improved form in August with a .333/.375/.472 slash line over 12 games, but the Rockies continue to build in regular days off for him while he's struggled overall this season with a career-low .588 OPS. He'll sit for the fourth time this month, clearing the way for Cole Carrigg to pick up a start at shortstop.

The Cubs announced that Peterson will be moved to the bullpen after Edward Cabrera (hamstring) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Sunday, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Rather than shifting to a six-man rotation, manager Craig Counsell will send Peterson to the bullpen to provide the club with a multi-inning arm to replace Javier Assad, who was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. After a disastrous run with the Mets to begin the season, Peterson had pitched more credibly since being acquired by the Cubs in late June. Over eight starts with Chicago, Peterson has gone 4-1 with a 4.19 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 31:16 K:BB across 43 innings.

Kelly is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

Kelly will hit the bench for a second consecutive game and for the third time in the last four contests. He appears to be moving into more of a timeshare at catcher with Miguel Amaya, who will receive another turn behind the plate Sunday.

Musgrove (elbow) allowed five earned runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.2 innings Friday in his rehab start with Triple-A El Paso.

Though he was knocked around in the third start of his rehab assignment, Musgrove built up to 70 pitches and 95.2 mph with his fastball. According to MLB.com, Padres manager Craig Stammen said Musgrove was "very positive" about how he felt during Friday's outing, but a decision has yet to be made regarding whether he'll require another rehab start or return from the 60-day injured list to make his first big-league appearance since Sept. 26, 2024. If Musgrove ends up entering the rotation during the Padres' upcoming weekend series with the Twins, he would likely be operating with a limited pitch count.

The Cubs optioned Assad to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Assad lost his spot in the rotation in the aftermath of the Aug. 3 trade deadline and shifted to the bullpen, and he'll now end up losing his spot on the roster entirely after the Cubs reinstated Edward Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Assad is expected to get stretched back out at Triple-A to offer insurance in case injuries test the big club's starting depth down the stretch.

The Cubs reinstated Cabrera (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list ahead of his scheduled start Sunday versus the Cardinals at Wrigley Field, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Chicago optioned right-hander Javier Assad to Triple-A in a corresponding move. Cabrera will be making his first appearance since June 23 after recovering from a left hamstring strain, and the right-hander was sharp during a three-start rehab assignment, firing five no-hit innings for Double-A Knoxville on Tuesday. He built up to 64 pitches in that outing and will likely have a light workload restriction in place Sunday.

Goodman (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.

After being scratched from the lineup ahead of Saturday's 7-1 loss due to left shoulder inflammation, Goodman will wind up missing a third straight start on account of the injury. The Rockies will go with Brett Sullivan behind the plate Sunday in place of Goodman, who is being viewed as day-to-day heading into the team's three-game series with the Dodgers that begins Monday.
