  • C.J. Abrams SS | WAS

    Nationals' CJ Abrams: Removed early

Abrams was pulled from Friday's game against Miami due to an apparent injury, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

It's not immediately clear what kind of injury Abrams is dealing with, though it may have something to do with the hip/thigh injury that held him out of two games earlier in the week. If the All-Star shortstop ends up needing to miss more time, Amed Rosario and Jose Tena would be candidates for additional starts in the infield.

  • Brewers' Garrett Mitchell: Idle vs. LHP

Mitchell isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Arizona.

The D-backs will send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to the hill to start Friday's contest, so the left-handed bat of Mitchell will start the game on the bench. His absence opens a spot in left field for Isaac Collins.

  • Oliver Dunn SS | TB

Brewers' Oliver Dunn: Hitting bench against lefty

Dunn isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The Brewers will match up against left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on Friday, so the left-handed bat of Dunn will begin the game in the dugout. Vinny Capra will fill in at third base and bat eighth.

  • Joey Bart C | CHW

Pirates' Joey Bart: Exits with back injury

Bart was removed from Friday's game against the Reds due to lower-back discomfort.

The Pirates are labelling Bart as day-to-day, which is a good sign that his injury isn't too serious. The 28-year-old may miss a game or two if his soreness lingers, but he doesn't appear destined for the injured list.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Beginning assignment Saturday

Woodruff (shoulder) will make his first rehab start at Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

The plan is for Woodruff to throw roughly 65 pitches during his first rehab outing. The Brewers will keep the 32-year-old righty in the minors for multiple starts while he continues to build up his workload, though the team may push him to return sooner rather than later since it currently has seven starting pitchers on the injured list.

  • Aaron Civale RP | CHC

    Brewers' Aaron Civale: Suffers setback

Civale suffered a setback in his recovery from a left hamstring strain this week, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.

Civale has been on the IL since the end of March due to his hamstring, and there's currently no telling how much of an effect his setback will have on his recovery timeline. He'll presumably undergo imaging to determine the extent of the damage, and the team will determine his next steps once the results come back.

  • Nick Yorke 3B | PIT

Pirates' Nick Yorke: Reinstated off IL

Yorke (shoulder) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Danny Demilio of PittsburghBaseballNow.com reports.

Yorke was placed on the injured list April 6 due to right shoulder soreness, but he's progressed enough in his recovery to return after the minimum. In the four games prior to his injury, Yorke went 5-for-15 with two walks, three doubles and one RBI.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

    Cubs' Carson Kelly: Sitting Friday

Kelly is not in the Cubs' starting lineup against the Dodgers on Friday.

Kelly will sit for a second straight game as Miguel Amaya gets the start behind home plate and bats ninth against Dodgers right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Kelly is 7-for-21 with two homers, eight walks, 10 RBI and five runs scored so far this season.

  • Pavin Smith 1B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Pavin Smith: Taking seat against lefty

Smith isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Milwaukee.

Smith has been white-hot to start the season, slashing .400/.486/.667 through his first 35 plate appearances, but the D-backs won't risk him cooling down against the left-handed Jose Quintana on Friday. Randal Grichuk will serve as the team's DH instead and bat third.

  • Alek Thomas CF | LAD

Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Idle vs. southpaw

Thomas is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Brewers.

The Brewers will send out left-hander Jose Quintana to make his season debut Friday, so the D-backs will keep the left-handed bat of Thomas on the bench. Jake McCarthy will fill in as Arizona's center fielder and bat eighth.
