Phillips (3-6) took the loss Thursday against the Pirates, allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.

After holding the Pirates scoreless through his first four innings, Phillips ran into trouble in the fifth, when he gave up two runs on a balk and a Jared Triolo homer before he was charged with another two runs in the sixth. Phillips had been pitching well coming into the day, working to a 3.33 ERA across 24.1 innings in his previous six outings. His ERA now sits at 3.65 over 98.2 innings this year with a 1.36 WHIP and 76:40 K:BB. Phillips is tentatively in line to face the Phillies on the road his next time out.

Ashcraft (12-5) earned the win in a complete game Thursday against the Marlins, allowing a run on three hits and a walk. He struck out 10.

Ashcraft was dominant Thursday, as he held Miami scoreless for eight innings before Owen Caissie led off the ninth with a home run. It was an especially encouraging performance for the right-hander, who had stumbled to a 7.88 ERA across 24 innings in his previous five outings. Ashcraft's ERA now sits at 3.88 across 24 starts (141.1 innings) this season with a 1.11 WHIP and 155:33 K:BB. He's tentatively in line to face the Tigers at home his next time out.

Flores went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and six total RBI in Thursday's 13-1 win over Miami.

Flores, making his second start in Pittsburgh's last five games, extended the Pirates' lead to 8-0 in the eighth inning with a three-run blast off John King before capping the scoring in the ninth with another three-run blast after Marlins third baseman Javier Sanoja took over on the mound. Coming into the day, Flores had just one homer through his first 12 games this season while going 1-for-15 in his last eight contests. He'll primarily serve as Henry Davis' backup behind the plate while Endy Rodriguez (hip) is sidelined.

The Dodgers signed Tromp to a minor-league deal Thursday, and he's been sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City, Alex Freedman of the Oklahoma City Comets reports.

Tromp elected free agency Aug. 4 after getting booted off Baltimore's 40-man roster July 31. The Dodgers have dealt with depth issues at catcher, as Will Smith (neck) and Dalton Rushing (elbow) have missed extended time. In a corresponding move Thursday, the Dodgers released Chuckie Robinson.

Freeman is starting at first and batting cleanup Thursday versus Milwaukee after feeling sore following Wednesday's 4-2 win over Kansas City, Kirsten Watson of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Freeman fell into the dugout on the first-base side in an attempt to track a popup in foul territory Wednesday, which resulted in his departure from the game due to soreness in his right hand, knee and shoulder. As Freeman hoped following Wednesday's game, he's in the lineup for the series opener versus the Brewers.

Betts isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers, Jack Harris of the California Post reports.

Betts will get a breather Thursday after going 6-for-11 with two homers, three RBI and three runs scored during the Dodgers' last series against the Royals. Miguel Rojas will fill in at shortstop and bat sixth.

Garcia picked up the save Thursday against the White Sox, allowing one run on one hit and walk in the ninth inning. He struck out one.

It's unclear if closer Emilio Pagan wasn't available Thursday, but Garcia managed to seal the win for the Reds in any case. Through 24.2 innings, Garcia has a 3.28 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB with two holds plus two saves in as many attempts. Both of his save chances have come in his past nine outings, but Garcia has let in at least one run in three straight appearances.

Walston (elbow) struck out two and allowed one hit in a scoreless inning during a rehab appearance Wednesday with Triple-A Reno.

Walston had been a full-time starter throughout his minor-league career and started in two of his seven appearances during his debut season with the Diamondbacks in 2024 before undergoing Tommy John surgery last spring. While the Diamondbacks may not have closed the door on developing the 25-year-old as a starter, it appears he'll be preparing for a multi-inning relief role for the remainder of the season once he returns from the 60-day injured list. He's been used out of the bullpen for each of his first three rehab appearances with Reno, covering four innings while striking out three and allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks.

Abbott took a no-decision against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. He struck out three.

Four of the hits he allowed went for extra bases, and Abbott failed to settle down after giving up four runs in the first two innings. The left-hander was also unable to take advantage of the early 3-0 lead the Reds granted him, and he's now issued multiple walks in six consecutive starts. Abbott is set to bring a lackluster 4.13 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 102:64 K:BB over 133 innings into his next start versus the Cardinals in hitter-friendly Cincinnati.

Thompson (back) began a throwing program Monday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.

Arizona placed Thompson on the 15-day injured list Aug. 5, so his ability to start throwing soon after being deactivated suggests that he won't be in line for an extended stay on the shelf. Thompson had collected seven holds and four wins while pitching to a 4.43 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 40.2 innings over 46 appearances out of the Arizona bullpen prior to landing on the IL.
