Rockies' Ezequiel Tovar: Two homers in win Friday

Tovar went 2-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI, one walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Friday's 8-6 win over the Giants.

Tovar stuffed the stat sheet in a big way during the come-from-behind win. He walked and stole home in the second inning, belted a two-run homer in the eighth and then swatted a walk-off, two-run homer in the ninth. They were Tovar's third and fourth homers of the season. It's been a tough month at the plate for Tovar, whose average bottomed out at .186 on May 6. Since then, he's 18-for-62 (.290) with three home runs, 11 RBI, eight runs scored, two stolen bases and a 6:14 BB:K across 19 games. He's pushed his season average to .220 with a .614 OPS in what has been a disappointing 2026 campaign for the 24-year-old shortstop. Tovar has an ugly second-percentile 43.9 percent chase rate.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: Goes deep again in loss

Happ went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals.

Happ launched a three-run shot off Andre Pallante in the first inning, marking his third straight game with a homer. The 31-year-old was given a two-day mental reset entering the week and it has certainly paid off, as he's gone 8-for-22 with five extra-base hits and 11 RBI over his past five games. For the year, he's slashing .230/.354/.475 with 13 home runs, 31 RBI, 38 runs scored and two steals across 243 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Nelson Velazquez: Homers in season debut

Velazquez went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 6-5 win over the Cubs. He was also hit by a pitch.

Velazquez hit cleanup in his 2026 debut and launched a three-run blast off Shota Imanaga in his first at-bat. The 27-year-old slashed .232/.344/.420 with seven homers, 22 RBI, 21 runs scored and four steals across 163 plate appearances at Triple-A Memphis, but he'd been swinging a hot bat prior to his promotion and appears to have the confidence of manager Oliver Marmol against left-handed pitching.

  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Belts 13th homer in comeback win

Goodman went 2-for-4 with a double, a three-run homer and one walk in Friday's 8-6 win over the Giants.

With the Rockies trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Goodman came up with two on and swatted a towering three-run homer to tie the game off Giants closer Caleb Kilian. It was Goodman's 13th homer of the season and second in his last three games after he snapped a nine-game drought without a long ball. Goodman doesn't hit for average, but he swings hard and hits the ball hard when he does make contact. He entered Friday in the first percentile in chase rate (44.2 percent) and second percentile in strikeout rate (35.2 percent). On the year, Goodman is slashing .244/.307/.487 with 13 home runs, 23 RBI, 32 runs scored, three stolen bases and a 14:75 BB:K across 215 trips to the plate.

Lorenzen didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts across 3.2 innings.

Lorenzen made relatively quick work of the Giants in the first two innings, but the wheels began to fall off the second time through the lineup. He allowed four of the first six batters to reach base in the top of the fourth before being yanked after 70 pitches. Lorenzen was on the hook for a sixth straight loss before the Colorado offense put up five runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk it off. On the season, Lorenzen has an ugly 7.22 ERA and 43:20 K:BB across 57.1 innings.
