Peterson allowed five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter in 1.1 innings Tuesday against the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision.

Peterson continued his stretch of horrendous starts in Tuesday's outing. In nine starts dating back to Aug. 6, Peterson has allowed at least four runs in six of them and has an 8.42 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over that span. The Cubs strung together a pair of runs in the first and another three in the second, forcing a quick hook for Peterson after he threw just 42 pitches (22 strikes). Manager Carlos Mendoza mentioned afterward that Peterson could play a big role for the remaining five games of the regular season, potentially pitching out of the bullpen. As of now, Peterson is lined up to start Sunday against the Nationals, though that would change if he's used in relief in advance of that game.

The Diamondbacks outrighted Woodford to Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.

Woodford passed through waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster. He has the ability to decline the outright assignment and become a free agent, but it's unclear what the right-hander's plans are. Woodford has collected a 6.44 ERA and 23:13 K:BB over 36.1 frames in the majors this season.

Diaz locked down his 27th save of the season in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Cubs, tossing two perfect innings while striking out five.

Despite it being his third appearance in four days, Diaz was dominant in what was a massive moment for the Mets' playoff hopes. He had no issues with the top of the Cubs lineup in the eighth before striking out the side in the ninth against the heart of the order. Diaz struck out five in an appearance for the first time since June 12, 2022, and Tuesday was his third time this season completing two innings. A lot will be asked of Diaz in this final week of the season with the Mets controlling their own destiny for the final National league wild-card spot.

Alvarez went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's win over the Cubs.

Alvarez went deep in the eighth off Caleb Thielbar to put the Mets ahead 9-7. It was Alvarez's third home run in his last nine games, a span during which he's batting .310/.394/.690. Alvarez has quietly put together a productive second half of the season when he's been available. In 37 games since being recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on July 21, Alvarez is hitting .282/.363/.573 with seven homers and 19 RBI.

Barco (1-0) allowed two hits in a scoreless inning to earn the win Tuesday against the Reds.

Barco had his contract selected Tuesday and made his debut in the sixth inning. He allowed a pair of singles but ultimately escaped a jam by inducing a groundout. Barco may make one additional appearance out of the bullpen before the close of the season, and he could be in line to compete for a rotation spot to begin 2026.

Lindor went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and three RBI in Tuesday's win over the Cubs.

Lindor opened up the game with a leadoff home run versus Cade Horton and later plated additional runs in the fifth and sixth. Tuesday marked Lindor's first game with multiple RBI since Aug. 29, but he's now recorded a hit in 11 straight games, including homers in back-to-back. Lindor is one home run away from achieving the 30-homer mark for a third straight season and he's now up to 83 RBI and 113 runs in 2025.

Yorke went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday against the Reds.

Yorke has started eight of Pittsburgh's last nine games, taking over as the team's primary second baseman. He's made good use of that opportunity, hitting .250 with four RBI and four runs scored. He's also currently riding a five-game hitting streak. Yorke is likely auditioning for a roster spot to begin the 2026 campaign.

Brubaker will start Wednesday's contest versus the Cardinals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

He's sliding into the rotation in place of Robbie Ray, who is being shut down. All 16 of Brubaker's appearances in the majors this season have been in relief, but he's gone multiple innings in each of his last five outings and has made eight starts in the minors in 2025, so he's relatively stretched out. Still, the Giants' bullpen will be active in the series finale.

Schwarber went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Marlins.

The veteran slugger got the Phillies on the board by taking Edward Cabrera deep in the first inning. It was Schwarber's fourth long ball in the last nine games and his 54th of the season, and with five games left on the regular-season schedule, he's four homers short of Ryan Howard's franchise record of 58 set in 2006.

Duran struck out one and gave up one run on two hits in the ninth inning Tuesday to blow his fifth save of the season in a 6-5 extra-innings loss to the Marlins.

Cristopher Sanchez blanked Miami for seven innings and handed a 3-0 lead off to his bullpen, but David Robertson gave up two runs in the eighth before Duran served up a game-tying solo shot to Heriberto Hernandez. Duran's blown two of his last three save chances and has now allowed runs in three of his last four appearances, an ominous sign for Phillies fans traumatized by years of bullpen collapses no matter what name is on the back of the jersey. The 27-year-old flamethrower still sports an outstanding 2.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 25:1 K:BB over 19.2 innings since being acquired from the Twins at the trade deadline.
