  • Cade Horton P | CHC

Cubs' Cade Horton: Pulled with back tightness

Horton was removed from his start Tuesday against the Mets due to back tightness, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Horton made it through three innings of one-run ball Tuesday before his back forced him to make an early exit. His abbreviated outing will likely be his final appearance in the regular season, giving the rookie right-hander a 2.67 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 118 innings across 23 appearances. As long as his back injury proves to be minor, Horton will certainly be in the running to start Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series next week.

  • Tyler Freeman RF | COL

Rockies' Tyler Freeman: Late scratch Tuesday

Freeman was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Mariners due to lower-back tightness.

The Rockies haven't offered any details regarding the severity of Freeman's injury, but it will be enough to prevent him from playing Tuesday. Kyle Farmer will replace him as Colorado's designated hitter and bat eighth.

  • Jose Fermin LF | STL

Cardinals' Jose Fermin: Taken out of lineup

Fermin was scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Fermin was initially penciled in to start at second base for the injured Brendan Donovan (groin), but the latter was cleared to play shortly before Tuesday's contest and took Fermin's place in the lineup. The 26-year-old has done well while serving as infield depth this season, slashing .315/.403/.463 with nine RBI, four runs scored and two steals through 63 plate appearances.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Late addition to lineup

Donovan (groin) will start at second base and bat leadoff Tuesday against the Giants, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Donovan was left off the first iteration of St. Louis' lineup Tuesday, but he's now been cleared to play after sitting out Monday's game with groin tightness. The 28-year-old has slashed .321/.367/.500 over 30 plate appearances since returning from the injured list Sept. 12.

  • Brewers' Isaac Collins: Resting Tuesday

Collins isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus San Diego.

Collins remains in search of his first hit since Sept. 12, although he drew two walks and scored a run Monday. He'll retreat to the dugout Tuesday while Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins and Sal Frelick form Milwaukee's outfield trio.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

Brewers' Andrew Vaughn: Taking seat Tuesday

Vaughn isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

Vaughn will get a chance to rest Tuesday after going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's extra-inning loss. Jake Bauers will get the nod at first base instead and bat seventh.

  • Roki Sasaki SP | LAD

    Dodgers' Roki Sasaki: Returning Wednesday

The Dodgers will reinstate Sasaki (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Sasaki hasn't pitched in the majors since May due to a right shoulder impingement. He's been making rehab appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City since mid-August, however, posting a 6.10 ERA and 1.60 WHIP alongside a 19:13 K:BB through 20.2 innings. Once activated, the 23-year-old righty is expected to work out of the bullpen -- likely as a middle reliever, considering he carries a 4.72 ERA in 34.1 innings with the Dodgers this season.

  • Dane Myers CF | CIN

Marlins' Dane Myers: Carted off field

Myers was removed from Tuesday's game against the Phillies with a right knee laceration, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Myers collided with the right-field wall while attempting to make a catch in the second inning and came down awkwardly on his right leg. He exited the game on a cart, and although the Marlins have yet to provide information on the severity of his injury, early indications don't seem promising for the 29-year-old.

  • Padres' Jackson Merrill: Sitting Tuesday

Merrill is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.

Merrill will get his first day off since Sept. 1 after he went 2-for-5 with two strikeouts in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings win. Bryce Johnson will start in center field and bat seventh versus Milwaukee.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Not starting Tuesday

Cronenworth is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus Milwaukee.

Cronenworth will get a breather after going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in Monday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Brewers. Mason McCoy will take over at second base and bat ninth in his place.
