Hicks (illness) will start at catcher and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Hicks ended up being scratched from the lineup ahead of Tuesday's 2-1 win after falling ill, but he made enough progress overnight to rejoin the starting nine for the series finale. The second-year player has been one of the more productive bats in the Miami lineup this season, producing a 143 wRC+ while batting .311 with six home runs, one stolen base, 27 RBI and 17 runs in 28 games.

Fermin is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cubs.

Luis Campusano started Tuesday night at catcher and will be back behind the plate for Wednesday's matinee. It's been a nearly even split in playing time at catcher this season between Fermin (16 starts) and Campusano (14 starts).

Sheets is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Right-hander Jameson Taillon is toeing the slab for the Cubs, and this marks just the second time this season that the left-handed-swinging Sheets is out of the lineup versus a righty. Manny Machado is getting a start at designated hitter, and Ty France will be at first base for the Padres in Wednesday's rubber match.

Laureano is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Cubs.

Laureano is in a funk at the plate, having posted a .515 OPS and a 39.6 percent strikeout rate across his last 10 contests. He'll get a day to regroup Wednesday while Nick Castellanos patrols left field for the Padres.

Machado (leg) will start at designated hitter and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

Machado didn't play Tuesday after exiting Monday's contest when he tweaked his leg. He's feeling well enough to DH in Wednesday's series finale and could return to third base this weekend. Miguel Andujar will play the hot corner Wednesday for the Padres.

Arraez went 1-for-3 with a double in Tuesday's 7-0 loss to the Phillies.

Arraez lined a double to left field in the fourth inning, accounting for one of San Francisco's two hits on the night. The 29-year-old infielder has recorded a hit in eight of his last 10 games, batting .317 with four runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases and zero strikeouts in 43 plate appearances over that stretch. Overall, he's slashing .315/.345/.380 with 11 runs scored, eight RBI, four stolen bases and a 3.4 percent strikeout rate across 118 plate appearances this season.

Susac (elbow) has begun a hitting program and is expected to resume throwing later this week, per MLB.com.

Susac was placed on the 10-day injured list April 21 (retroactive to April 20) and is expected to miss 2-to-3 weeks due to right elbow neuritis. The 24-year-old catcher has impressed early this season, slashing .478/.500/.652 with five RBI and a run scored across 24 plate appearances in 11 games. Susac may return to splitting reps behind the plate with Patrick Bailey once cleared, but for now, Eric Haase will continue serving as Bailey's backup.

The Cubs outrighted Velasquez to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday.

After being designated for assignment Sunday and then clearing waivers, Velasquez had the ability to elect free agency and pursue his options on the open market, but he looks like he'll wind up sticking in the Cubs organization. The veteran right-hander made one appearance out of the big-league bullpen upon being called up from Triple-A last Friday, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings. He'll likely shift back into a starting role with Iowa.

Bregman was not in the lineup for Tuesday's win over the Padres due to a sore toe, Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Bregman fouled a ball off his foot in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers. He was in Monday's lineup before getting his first day off Tuesday, though he came off the bench to deliver a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning. Given that Bregman was able to enter mid-game Tuesday, he has a good chance to return to the lineup for Wednesday's matinee.

Lopez went 3-for-5 with a double in Tuesday's win over the Dodgers.

The 27-year-old shortstop has hit safely in 14 of the last 16 games with three three-hit performances, a stretch in which he's batting .333 (22-for-66). Lopez is coming off a breakout 2025 but doesn't appear to have reached his ceiling, and the surge has pushed his slash line on the season to .325/.366/.500 with seven doubles, two triples, three homers, four steals, 12 RBI and 20 runs in 29 contests.
