  • Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Picking back up at home

Goodman went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored Wednesday against the Marlins.

Goodman had a quiet road trip through mid-September, going only 3-for-23 across a seven-game span ending Sept. 14. However, he's gotten back on track since returning home, going 4-for-9 with a double and a run scored across two games. Goodman has had an impressive breakout season and is hitting well to close things out, blasting four home runs with 11 RBI and seven runs scored while hitting .321 across 14 games in September.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Getting breather Thursday

Alvarez is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Padres.

Alvarez started each of the previous five games at catcher, so he'll receive a well-earned day off during Thursday's matinee. Luis Torrens will be behind the dish and bat eighth for the Mets.

  • Reed Garrett RP | NYM

Mets' Reed Garrett: To IL with sprained elbow

Garrett was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right elbow sprain.

The move is retroactive to Sept. 15, but it nonetheless means the end of Garrett's regular season. He has logged an 8.25 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 12 innings since the beginning of August.

  • Sean Manaea RP | NYM

Mets' Sean Manaea: Moved to paternity list

Manaea was placed on the paternity list Thursday.

Manaea and Clay Holmes had a successful piggyback start Tuesday, with Holmes pitching the first four innings and Manaea logging the final five frames en route to picking up the win. The 6-foot-5 lefty will spend a few days with his family before following the same script with Holmes on Sunday against the Nationals.

  • Mickey Moniak LF | COL

Rockies' Mickey Moniak: Homers in third straight

Moniak went 1-for-2 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Marlins.

Moniak led off the ninth inning with a home run, marking his third straight start with a long ball. He also has nine RBI and four runs scored in that span. Moniak has taken advantage of Coors Field to boost his average, though he still has an impressive .197 ISO across 196 plate appearances on the road.

  • Aaron Civale SP | ATH

Cubs' Aaron Civale: Earns first Chicago win

Civale (4-9) tossed three scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Wednesday's 8-4 victory over the Pirates. He allowed one hit and struck out three.

With starter Matthew Boyd scuffling through three innings, Chicago turned to Civale in long relief, and the veteran earned his first win with his new team since getting claimed off waivers at the end of August. Civale has looked sharp with the Cubs, as he's allowed just one run across eight innings in three appearances, and he's struck out eight batters as well. The righty's fantasy value is capped in his current role, though it looks like he could be a positive addition to Chicago's bullpen down the stretch.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scores three times, swipes base

Hoerner went 2-for-4 with a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Pirates.

Hoerner made his three times on base count, as he scored three runs and also swiped his 28th base of the season in 34 attempts. The speedy infielder is locked in at the plate, as he's now batting a sizzling .410 across 15 games this month. That has pushed Hoerner's season-long batting average up to .303, which would be a new career best and is currently good for seventh in the majors.

  • Pirates' Enmanuel Valdez: Still not hitting

Valdez (shoulder) will not be cleared to start hitting until the offseason, MLB.com reports.

Valdez was originally expected to be cleared to play in winter ball, though this report places that in doubt. He continues to throw from 120 feet and is expected to resume fielding grounders in the next several days.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: Hits 23rd home run Wednesday

Happ went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 8-4 win over the Pirates.

Happ and Moises Ballesteros hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning, giving the former 23 long balls for the season. The veteran outfielder has been in a nice groove this month, as he's batting .321 with five homers, 10 RBI and 12 runs scored across 15 September games. Happ now needs two more long balls to match his career high of 25, which he recorded back in 2021 and again last year.

  • Jared Jones SP | PIT

Pirates' Jared Jones: Throwing from 60 feet

Jones (elbow) is playing catch from 60 feet three times per week, MLB.com reports.

Jones underwent surgery to repair the UCL in his elbow in mid-May. He was given a 10-to-12-month timeline for recovery at the time, and reports state that he is still on track to return to "game-like activities" in that range.
