  • Nathan Lukes LF | TOR

Blue Jays' Nathan Lukes: Hits first career homer in loss

Lukes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-1 loss to the Marlins.

Lukes hit his first career home run in the first inning, but it would be the only offense the Blue Jays could muster. The 30-year-old has impressed in just 91 plate appearances this season, hitting .303 with 10 RBI, 13 runs scored and a stolen base.

  • Dylan Crews CF | WAS

Nationals' Dylan Crews: Swipes 11th bag in win

Crews went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Phillies.

Crews was a pest all night and came around to score on a homer by Joey Gallo in the eighth inning. The 22-year-old has gone just 4-for-38 in his past 10 games, and Saturday was his first multi-hit effort since Sept. 17. On the season, he is hitting a lowly .198 but does have three home runs and 11 steals across 128 plate appearances with the Nationals.

  • James Wood LF | WAS

Nationals' James Wood: Hits two-run homer in win

Wood went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a triple and an additional run scored in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Phillies.

Wood opened the scoring with a two-run homer off Zack Wheeler in the sixth inning and then tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth. The 22-year-old is finishing his rookie season on a high note, hitting safely in eight of his past 10 contests with four extra-base hits and six runs scored. On the year, he's batting .269 with nine long balls, 41 RBI, 43 runs scored and 14 steals across 331 plate appearances.

  • MacKenzie Gore SP | WAS

Nationals' MacKenzie Gore: Throws six scoreless in no-decision

Gore did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Phillies, allowing three hits and one walk with nine strikeouts over six scoreless innings.

Gore generated a ridiculous 24 whiffs on 91 pitches and departed with a 2-0 lead that his bullpen was unable to hold. The southpaw was fantastic in September, logging four quality starts and allowing just four total earned runs across five outings. He'll finish the season with a 3.90 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 181:65 K:BB and 10 wins across 166.1 innings.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Phillies' Zack Wheeler: Strikes out 11 in no-decision

Wheeler did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Nationals, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

Wheeler was his usual dominant self other than surrendering a two-run homer in the sixth inning, but the Phillies' offense didn't score a run until the eighth. The NL Cy Young candidate finished the regular season strong, yielding only 15 earned runs over 11 consecutive quality starts. He'll finish the regular season with a 2.57 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 224:52 K:BB while reaching 200 innings for the second time in his career.

  • Nick Sandlin RP | CLE

Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Working as opener Sunday

Sandlin will serve as the Guardians' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Astros, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Sandlin will make his second start of the regular season Sunday, with Gavin Williams expected to serve in bulk relief. Sandlin's first start came Aug. 26 against the Royals, when he allowed two walks while striking out two batters in one scoreless inning. Sandlin has a 3.75 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 68:27 K:BB across 57.2 innings this season.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Smacks 39th home run

Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 4-3 loss against the Astros.

Ramirez took Justin Verlander deep in the first inning, and he's now one homer away from a 40-40 season. If he plays in Sunday's season finale, Ramirez has a chance to become the first primary third baseman ever to post a 40-40 season.

  • Blue Jays' Yariel Rodriguez: Strikes out five in loss

Rodriguez (1-8) took the loss against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over five innings.

Rodriguez allowed two runs in the first inning and was charged with another after departing with no outs in the sixth. The 27-year-old rookie yielded three earned runs or fewer in each of his five September outings but also failed to complete more than five frames in any of them. He'll finish the year with a 4.47 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 85:40 K:BB across 86.2 innings.

  • Rangers' Walter Pennington: Recalled by Texas

Texas recalled Pennington from the Arizona Complex League Rangers on Saturday.

Pennington takes the spot in the Rangers' bullpen vacated by right-hander Josh Sborz, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right shoulder fatigue. Pennington made his last appearance Sept. 21 against the Mariners, during which he allowed three runs on two hits while striking out two across two-thirds of an inning. Across 15 major-league outings with the Rangers this season (including one start), Pennington has a 3.12 ERA and 1.73 WHIP across 17.1 innings.

  • Ben Lively SP | CLE

Guardians' Ben Lively: Tagged with 10th loss

Lively (13-10) took the loss Saturday against the Astros, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out four over four innings.

Lively didn't have his best stuff for his final regular-season start as the four walks tied a season high. It's a tough ending for what has otherwise been a great season for the 32-year-old. Lively heads into the playoffs with a 3.81 ERA over 151 innings in his first season with the Guardians.
