The Cardinals activated Winn (thumb) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

After missing slightly over two weeks with a left thumb fracture, Winn will return to the lineup Tuesday. The 24-year-old will bat eighth and man shortstop for the second game of a three-game set against San Francisco. St. Louis demoted Cesar Prieto to clear a roster spot for Winn.

Rortvedt cleared waivers and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Alex Freedman of okccomets.com reports

The Dodgers designated Rortvedt for assignment Sept. 1 to make room for Will Smith's return from a neck injury. Rortvedt is expected to start In Oklahoma City's game Wednesday.

The Pirates recalled Eisert from Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.

After being optioned to Triple-A on Friday, Eisert will now rejoin the big club to replace the injured Isaac Mattson (hip). Eisert hasn't been very effective in the majors this season, posting a 6.00 ERA and 1.39 WHIP across 36 frames, and he will likely be reserved for low-leverage situations as long as he's with Pittsburgh.

The Cardinals optioned Prieto to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.

Prieto appeared in just two games after being recalled Aug. 30. The 27-year-old will head back to Triple-A, where he has slashed 308/.367/.505 with 12 homers and 43 RBI in 335 plate appearances, as Masyn Winn (thumb) comes off the IL.

The Pirates placed Mattson on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to Sunday, with hip inflammation.

Mattson gave up three earned runs in two innings during his first appearance back in the majors Saturday and appears to have picked up an injury in the process. He'll be eligible to return during the final week of the regular season. In the meantime, the Pirates will bring up Brandon Eisert to fill the void in their bullpen.

Thomas cleared waivers and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Alex Freedman of okccomets.com reports.

The Dodgers designated Thomas for assignment Saturday after he spent late August up with the big club. The outfielder is now back with Oklahoma City and in their staring lineup Tuesday.

Young isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against San Diego, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Young will move to the bench to begin Tuesday's contest after going 0-for-3 with a strikeout in the series opener Monday. Daylen Lile, Dylan Crews and James Wood will start across the outfield while Young sits.

Nunez isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

Nunez's playing time has begun to dwindle as he's collected just three hits in 39 at-bats across his last 15 games. He'll now miss out on the starting nine for the third time in four games while CJ Abrams starts at shortstop and Jorbit Vivas mans second base.

The Diamondbacks scratched Carroll from Tuesday's lineup against the Royals due to low back discomfort, per Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic.

This will mark consecutive absences for Carroll. The 26-year-old is slashing just .148/.200/.296 with one homer and four RBI over his last 58 plate appearances. Ildemaro Vargas will replace Carroll and man first base while Tim Tawa moves over to right field for Arizona on Tuesday.

Ruiz isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

The Nationals have fallen into a pattern of alternating between Ruiz and Harry Ford behind the plate, and Tuesday will mark the latter's turn to handle catching duties.
