The Rays selected Martin's contract from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

He'll be absorbing the roster spot vacated by Mason Englert (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Martin earned his first-ever big-league promotion after allowing just two unearned runs with an 11:6 K:BB in his first 9.1 innings with Durham.

The Astros placed Allen (back) on the 10-day injured list Monday.

Allen had been scheduled to start at shortstop in Saturday's 7-5 loss to the Cardinals before being scratched from the lineup shortly before first pitch when he developed back spasms. The 27-year-old apparently didn't show meaningful improvement after resting up over the last couple of days, so Houston will keep him on the shelf for at least its entire seven-game week to give him extra time off to recover. The Astros called up Braden Shewmake from Triple-A Sugar Land to replace Allen as a utility infielder.

The Rays placed Englert on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right forearm tightness.

Englert had appeared in each of the Rays' last two games and was charged with one run over 2.1 frames in Sunday's loss to the Pirates. Though it's unclear whether Englert still needs to undergo imaging, manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times that the right-hander's forearm injury isn't viewed as a long-term concern.

The Astros outrighted France to Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday.

After the Astros designated him for assignment for the second time in just over two months this past weekend, France will once again end up sticking around in the Houston organization upon going unclaimed off waivers. He'll likely slot back into the rotation at Sugar Land, which lost three of its starters (Spencer Arrighetti, Colton Gordon and Peter Lambert) last week when the big club was in need of further reinforcement.

Varsho (knee) said Sunday that he will "probably" be back in the lineup Monday against the Angels, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Varsho exited Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks and didn't play Saturday or Sunday because of left knee discomfort. However, he was feeling significantly better by Sunday and is on track to return to action for Monday's series opener. Varsho is sporting a .262/.333/.462 batting line with three home runs and one stolen base in his first 19 contests this season.

The Astros transferred Javier (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Javier's initial placement on the 15-day IL was retroactive to April 9, so his move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll be on the shelf through at least the first week of June while he recovers from a Grade 2 right shoulder strain. Given the length of his absence along with his poor numbers prior to landing on the shelf (12.54 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and 4:9 K:BB in 9.1 innings over three starts), Javier likely won't be worth holding in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Just one day after acquiring Shewmake in a trade with the Yankees, the Astros will elevate the 28-year-old to the big-league roster to provide added depth in the infield while Jeremy Pena (hamstring) and Nick Allen (back) are on the shelf. Shewmake last saw big-league action in 2024 with the White Sox, appearing in 29 games while batting just .125/.134/.203 with one home run and five stolen bases over 67 plate appearances.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Gray will undergo an MRI on his right hamstring Tuesday, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.

Gray exited in the third inning of his start in Monday's 8-6 win over the Tigers due to hamstring tightness. The team believes the issue to be minor, but more will be known about Gray's status after the imaging results are in. Gray is tentatively slated to start Saturday in Baltimore, but that assignment is up in the air. If Gray need some down time, Payton Tolle is a likely replacement in the Boston rotation. As Healey notes, Gray was previously shelved with right hamstring strains during the 2022 and 2024 seasons, missing about 2-to-3 weeks on the two occasions.

Weiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Astros appear set to condense their rotation from six to five men this week, and Weiss, Spencer Arrighetti and Peter Lambert will all maintain starting roles for the time being after Colton Gordon was shifted to the bullpen Saturday. After making his first five appearances of the season in relief, Weiss was unable to make it out of the fourth in his first MLB start last Thursday against the Rockies, covering 3.2 innings and striking out three while allowing two earned runs on three hits and four walks. The 29-year-old righty has walked 13.9 percent of the batters he's faced on the season and will likely need to show improvement in that area to guarantee himself a longer-term stay in the rotation, even as the Astros contend with numerous injuries to starting pitchers.

Chapman picked up the save Monday against the Tigers, allowing no runs on one hit and no walks in two-thirds of an inning. He struck out one.

The Red Sox had an 8-3 lead to begin the ninth inning, but a save situation emerged once the Tigers got three of their first four batters in the frame to get aboard. Chapman went right after Detroit, throwing 11 of his 13 pitches for strikes, and he cleaned up the mess for save No. 4 on the year. The hard-throwing southpaw is off to an outstanding start in 2026, boasting a 1.17 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB with four saves in as many chances through 7.2 innings.
