  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Goes deep in loss

Lewis went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Lewis has four homers over 12 games since he returned from a stint with Triple-A St. Paul. He's also hitting .283 (13-for-46) in that span, which suggests his time in the minors helped him reset. For the season, Lewis is sporting a .200 average, .655 OPS, seven homers, 21 RBI, 18 runs scored, five doubles and four stolen bases over 43 contests at the big-league level.

  • Twins' Connor Prielipp: Shaky in loss

Prielipp (2-5) allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks while striking out four over six innings to take the loss versus the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Prielipp threw 63 of 97 pitches for strikes. It was a quality start by definition, but it wasn't a particularly good outing for the rookie left-hander, who had allowed four or more earned runs in four of his last five starts entering Friday's game. He's at a 5.17 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 55:23 K:BB through 55.2 innings over his first 11 major-league starts. Prielipp is tentatively lined up for a tough home start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Collects six RBI in blowout win

Kelly went 2-for-4 with a home run, six RBI and three runs scored in Friday's 16-2 win over Toronto.

It was a banner day for Kelly, whose six RBI doubled the total from his previous 23 games combined. The veteran backstop clubbed a grand slam in the opening frame, worked a bases-loaded walk in the sixth and followed up with an RBI infield single in the seventh. Kelly is batting .281 with a double, two home runs, nine RBI and seven runs scored over his past 10 contests.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Stays hot with homer

Marte went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in Friday's 9-5 win over the Twins.

Marte's hitting streak is up to eight games, a span in which he's gone 11-for-33 (.333). The homer was his first since June 4 versus the Dodgers. The second baseman is batting .258 with a .761 OPS, 12 homers, 44 RBI, 41 runs scored, 15 doubles and two triples across 71 games this season. He has yet to attempt a stolen base.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Rocked for seven runs

Gausman (4-5) took the loss Friday against the Cubs, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks over two innings. He struck out three.

It was a disaster of an opening frame for Gausman, who walked the first two batters he faced before eventually giving up a grand slam to Carson Kelly as part of a seven-run inning. It's the third time in the right-hander's last four starts that he's allowed four or more runs, and he's surrendered five homers during that span. The poor showing boosted Gausman's ERA by more than a half run to 4.04 to go along with a 1.13 WHIP and 89:20 K:BB over 87 innings this year.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Drives in four in win

Carroll went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, a walk, four RBI and one run scored in Friday's 9-5 win over the Twins.

Carroll's three-run triple in the eighth inning gave the Diamondbacks some breathing room. The speedy outfielder hadn't hit a three-bagger since he had two of them versus the Rockies on May 24, but he nonetheless still leads the majors in triples with nine, three ahead of Luis Arraez. In June, Carroll is hitting .269 (18-for-67) with 10 extra-base hits over 17 games. He's up to a .283 average, .925 OPS, 13 home runs, 42 RBI, 46 runs scored, 16 doubles and nine stolen bases over 72 contests this season.

  • Ben Brown RP | CHC

Cubs' Ben Brown: Cruises to fourth win

Brown (4-2) earned the win Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks over six innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out four.

Brown delivered a scoreless top of the first inning, and the Cubs offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the frame to put him on track for the victory. The right-hander surrendered single tallies in the third and sixth innings but otherwise kept Toronto off the board to deliver his third quality start and third victory in his past five outings. Brown has a 1.53 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB across 29.1 innings during that five-game stretch.

  • Mariners' Julio Rodriguez: Swats homer in loss

Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Rodriguez homered in the ninth inning to keep the Mariners from getting shut out. It's encouraging that the 25-year-old was able to play the full game in center field after exiting Wednesday's contest due to hamstring spasms, which also forced him to sit Thursday. It's unclear if he'll get any rest in the coming days, but he should be good to handle a starting role in the long run. Friday's long ball was his first since June 2, and Rodriguez is now batting .249 with a .745 OPS, 14 homers, 37 RBI, 41 runs scored, nine stolen bases and 15 doubles over 76 games this season.

  • Luis Castillo SP | SEA

Mariners' Luis Castillo: Roughed up in relief outing

Castillo allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter over four innings of relief in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Red Sox.

Castillo wasn't tagged with the loss, as that went to Bryce Miller. The Mariners' offense didn't give much support to either pitcher, but Castillo didn't do his part to keep the game close after a four-run seventh inning. He has now allowed 11 runs (seven earned) across 15.1 innings in June. Both Castillo and Miller are expected to work in traditional starts at some point during the Mariners' six-game road trip next week.

  • Bryce Miller SP | SEA

Mariners' Bryce Miller: Strikes out seven in loss

Miller (3-1) allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven without walking a batter over five innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Red Sox.

Miller was strong again, throwing 46 of 66 pitches for strikes in a planned short start with Luis Castillo working in the long-relief role. However, the Mariners got no-hit through 6.1 innings and didn't score until the ninth, leaving Miller with no run support in a hard-luck loss. The right-hander is now at a 1.58 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 43:5 K:BB over 40 innings through seven appearances (six starts) this season. The Mariners plan to have all of their starters work in a tandem situation at least once prior to the All-Star break. With Miller getting his done now, he should see something closer to a traditional starter's workload in his next outing.
