Tigers' Tyler Gentry: Gets minor-league deal with Detroit

The Tigers signed Gentry to a minor-league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Gentry appeared in 86 games for Triple-A Omaha in the Royals organization in 2025, posting a .206/.284/.371 slash line with nine home runs and four steals over 332 plate appearances. He appeared in three major-league games for the Royals in 2024, though he's unlikely to surface in Detroit this season unless the Tigers are in desperate need for outfield depth.

  • Mets' Richard Lovelady: Dropped from 40-man

The Mets designated Lovelady for assignment Saturday.

Lovelady has given up three earned runs over 7.1 innings this year, but he'll end up as the roster casualty necessary to free up a spot for Craig Kimbrel, who was selected to the active roster Saturday. Lovelady owns a 5.25 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across his MLB career, but his relatively strong start could prompt another team to pick him up off waivers.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Mets' Jorge Polanco: In Saturday's lineup

Polanco (Achilles) will start at designated hitter and bat third against the Athletics on Saturday.

Polanco has been in and out of the Mets' lineup recently with Achilles problems and sat out the Mets' last two games following his Achilles bursitis diagnosis, but he's seemingly feeling well enough to return to the starting nine Saturday. The 32-year-old has slashed .200/.289/275 across his first 45 plate appearances with New York.

  • Tigers' Justin Verlander: Slated for rehab assignment

Manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday that Verlander (hip) will make a rehab start before returning from the injured list, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Verlander will be eligible to return from the injured list Thursday, but the Tigers won't activate him right away and instead give him a tune-up outing before reintroducing him to the rotation. Once the veteran righty returns, Casey Mize or Keider Montero will likely be facing a demotion to the bullpen or Triple-A.

  • Vaughn Grissom 2B | LAA

Angels' Vaughn Grissom: Returns from IL

The Angels reinstated Grissom (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Saturday.

Grissom has been on the injured list for the first few weeks of the season due to a sprained left wrist, but he's been playing rehab games in Triple-A since March 31. The 25-year-old logged a base hit in each of his nine minor-league contests, finishing his assignment 12-for-35 (.343) with five RBI and a run scored. Now fully healthy, he'll make his season debut at second base and bat sixth against the Reds on Saturday, though Oswald Peraza and Adam Frazier remain in the mix for playing time at the keystone. Jeimer Candelario was DFA'd in a corresponding move.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Getting breather Saturday

Kelly isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Kelly hit a single and walked three times during Friday's loss to extend his hitting streak to five games, but he'll remain on the bench to begin Saturday's contest. Miguel Amaya will catch instead for starter Edward Cabrera and bat seventh.

  • Seiya Suzuki RF | CHC

Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: Absent from lineup

Suzuki isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Pittsburgh.

Manager Craig Counsell said Friday that Suzuki won't return to an everyday role immediately after coming back from his knee injury. The 31-year-old went 1-for-3 with a walk during his season debut Friday and will now sit Saturday as the Cubs look to ease him back into the lineup. Michael Conforto will start in right field and bat eighth.

  • Ian Happ LF | CHC

Cubs' Ian Happ: Back in lineup

Happ (heel) will start in left field and bat fourth Saturday against the Pirates.

A bruised left heel kept Happ out of the lineup for two games, but he returned to the starting nine Friday and went 2-for-3 with a walk. The 31-year-old outfielder is off to a very strong start to the season, slashing .233/.327/.558 with four homers, seven RBI and seven runs scored through his first 11 games.

  • White Sox's Luisangel Acuna: Sitting down Saturday

Acuna isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

After beginning the series 0-for-6 with a sacrifice fly, Acuna will retreat to the bench Saturday. Andrew Benintendi, Tristan Peters and Dustin Harris will start across the outfield.

  • Miguel Vargas 3B | CHW

White Sox's Miguel Vargas: On bench Saturday

Vargas isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals.

Vargas has gone 0-for-6 with a pair of walks through the first two games of the series and will now give way to Tanner Murray at third base.
