The Hornets waived Dinwiddie on Thursday, ESPN's Shams Charania reports. The Hornets needed to waive a guaranteed salary ahead of Opening Night to finalize their roster. With Collin Sexton and Tre Mann (hip) putting together strong training camps, Dinwiddie was viewed as expendable by Charlotte. The veteran is likely to receive NBA interest elsewhere.

Dinwiddie ended with six points (2-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four assists and three rebounds in 19 minutes during Saturday's preseason win over Dallas. Dinwiddie produced very little despite playing meaningful minutes, a sign of what fantasy managers might expect to see during the regular season. While he does provide the Hornets with a viable backup should LaMelo Ball miss time throughout the season, Dinwiddie's standalone value remains limited. Barring injuries to other players, the veteran is unlikely to be much of a fantasy factor in a bench role.

Dinwiddie agreed to a one-year deal with the Hornets on Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports. After spending the 2024-25 campaign with the Mavericks, Dinwiddie moves on to his sixth NBA team. The veteran guard will provide some depth for Charlotte. The team recently added Collin Sexton and Tre Mann to its backcourt. Dinwiddie averaged 11.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game last season while shooting 41.6 percent from the floor and 33.4 percent from beyond the arc over 79 regular-season outings.

Dinwiddie finished with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) over four minutes during Friday's 120-106 Play-In Game loss to Memphis. Dinwiddie logged six total minutes across Dallas' two games in the Play-In Tournament but didn't tally any stats. In 2024-25, Dinwiddie made 79 regular-season appearances, including 30 starts, and averaged 11.0 points, 4.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 27.0 minutes.

Dinwiddie (knee) is not on the injury report and will be available to play Sunday against the Grizzlies. The Mavericks will be resting several veterans for this matchup, such as Anthony Davis (groin) and Klay Thompson (foot). Still, Dinwiddie will play and should handle a heavy workload in the backcourt as the team's floor general. Dinwiddie heads into the final game of the regular season with averages of 12.4 points, 5.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game across 24 outings since the All-Star break.
