Heyward signed a one-year extension with the Steelers on Tuesday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. Heyward effectively signed a new contract worth $32.25 million over two years, including the first year guaranteed. This move also freed up $5.5 million in cap space for the Steelers, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Heyward will turn 37 years old in May but isn't showing any signs of slowing down, as he's coming off a strong season where he recorded 78 tackles (38 solo), including 3.5 sacks, and six pass breakups through 17 regular-season games (48.0 defensive snaps per game).

Heyward recorded 78 total tackles (38 solo), including 3.5 sacks, while also adding six passes defensed and a forced fumble over 17 contests during the 2025 regular season. Heyward was able to exceed 70 total takedowns for the second straight year and fourth time in the last five seasons. The defensive lineman has now registered at least 2.0 sacks in 13 straight campaigns. Even though it was his 15th season in Pittsburgh, Heyward continues to be one of the most productive players at his position in the league, being selected as a second-team All-Pro in 2025.

Heyward (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Heyward dealt with an ankle injury last week, though he was able to suit up Sunday against Chicago. He was limited in the Steelers' first practice this week, but with a full session Thursday, he seems likely to suit up against Buffalo on Sunday.

Heyward (ankle) had his injury designation removed by Pittsburgh on Saturday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. Heyward managed an ankle injury this week and logged a DNP/DNP/LP practice progression. The limited session Friday appears to be enough for the veteran defensive tackle to take the field Sunday against Chicago. Heyward has had a quiet season sack-wise with just 1.5 sacks through 10 games, though he also has six defensed passes and a forced fumble.

Heyward and the Steelers agreed to a revised contract Saturday that adds more than $3 million in new-money incentives, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports. Heyward had been seeking a reworked contract throughout training camp, and he and the team were ultimately able to agree upon adding incentives that will allow him to make up to $18 million in 2025. With the new deal in place, Heyward will almost certainly take the field Sunday against the Jets. That wasn't a certainty at the start of the weekend, as Heyward wasn't fully committal about suiting up when asked Friday about whether he'd play.
