  Kyler Murray (hamstring) is banged up and Wentz could start in Week 9 against Buffalo, which is a favorable matchup. Wentz could also replace Murray, even when healthy, since he's been struggling as Minnesota's starter, and Justin Jefferson is visibly upset. Wentz scored 25.2 Fantasy points against Green Bay in Week 1 when he replaced an injured Murray, but Wentz also scored 6.3 Fantasy points in Week 2 at Chicago. He should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues for up to 5 percent of your remaining FAAB.

  Wentz will serve as the Vikings' backup quarterback Sunday against the Buccaneers after head coach Kevin O'Connell announced Monday that Kyler Murray has cleared concussion protocol and will start Week 3. Wentz performed admirably across nearly two full games in relief of Murray, who sustained the concussion midway through the first quarter of the season opener against the Packers. After completing 12 of 19 passes for 133 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' come-from-behind 39-22 win over Green Bay, Wentz started Week 2 against the Bears and played turnover-free football in rainy and windy conditions en route to leading Minnesota to a 9-3 win. While Murray will reclaim the starting job now that he's out of the protocol, Wentz's performance over the past two weeks firmly solidifies him ahead of 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy on the depth chart.

  Wentz completed 11 of 20 passes for 143 yards in Sunday's 9-3 win over the Bears. He added six yards on three carries. Neither team reached 200 passing yards on a wet and windy day at Soldier Field, so Wentz had no real opportunity to build on his impressive performance last week in relief of Kyler Murray (concussion), when he threw three TDs. Murray could clear the concussion protocol in time to re-take the reins of the offense in Week 3, returning Wentz to the bench for a road trip to Tampa Bay after he led the Vikings to a 2-0 start to the season.

  Coach Kevin O'Connell announced Wednesday that Wentz will serve as Kyler Murray's backup for Sunday's game against the Packers. Wentz gets the QB2 nod over J.J. McCarthy, who will likely be inactive as the emergency third quarterback. O'Connell said this will be a week-to-week thing. Murray is expected to have a long leash as the Vikings' starter this season.

  Wentz completed three of four passes for 15 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and ran once for no gain in Friday's 34-6 preseason loss to the Broncos. He also fumbled once but recovered. The battle for the Vikings' No. 2 quarterback job has been a fluid situation this summer, and J.J. McCarthy's absence Friday due to an ankle injury only served to add further intrigue. Wentz had already forced head coach Kevin O'Connell to modify his stance on the role being McCarthy's by going 18-for-25 for 173 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions over his first two preseason games, and McCarthy hurt his own cause in the second exhibition by missing two open receivers for potential touchdowns. Wentz drew the start in McCarthy's absence against Denver on Friday, and in a perhaps telling sign, was protected from injury by playing on only the first two drives.
