Rush completed eight of 11 passes for 46 yards with an interception in Sunday's loss to the Lions. Dak Prescott got most of the fourth quarter off in a blowout loss, allowing Rush to see his most extensive action of the season so far. The 30-year-old continues to be active ahead of Trey Lance as the Cowboys' No. 2 QB, and Rush would presumably be the pick to move into the starting lineup should anything happen to Prescott.

Rush will open the season as the primary backup to Dak Prescott for the Cowboys. Trey Lance also made the 53-man roster, but his five-interception performance in the team's final preseason game ended any thought that he could bump Rush aside for the No. 2 job. Rush has been a reliable backup the last three seasons, seeing action in 21 games and completing 60.9 percent of his passes with a 6.9 YPA and an 8:5 TD:INT. Given that Prescott doesn't yet have a contract extension however, should he suffer a serious injury and the season go off the rails, it might be Lance and not Rush who fills in as the Cowboys evaluate their options for 2025 and beyond.

Rush (illness) is listed as active ahead of Sunday's playoff matchup against the Packers, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Rush was deemed questionable due to an ailment Friday after avoiding the Cowboys' injury reports Wednesday and Thursday. While the nature of this issue was never disclosed, the 30-year-old will once again be available as the team's backup quarterback behind Dak Prescott for Sunday's wild-card game. Rush has seen action in mop-up duty during seven games this season, completing 18 of 24 passes for 144 yards and one interception.

Rush is active Sunday against the Jets, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Rush will operate as the Cowboys' backup quarterback Sunday, as he remains ahead of Trey Lance on the team's depth chart. The veteran signal caller saw action at the end of the Cowboys' blowout victory over the Giants in Week 1, playing just seven snaps and attempting one pass. Rush would be the next man up if necessary behind Dak Prescott in Week 2.

Rush completed 10 of 12 passes for 83 yards in Saturday's 28-23 preseason loss to the Jaguars. The 29-year-old got the start at quarterback with Dak Prescott being held out of the Cowboys' preseason opener and was efficient on three drives, although none of them resulted in points for Dallas. Rush remains the favorite to serve as the No. 2 QB behind Prescott this season, but a big showing from Will Grier on Saturday has kept the competition alive for now.
