  • Trubisky (illness) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Trubisky did not practice Thursday due to an illness, but he resumed practicing in full Friday. He'll handle his usual backup role behind star quarterback Josh Allen during Sunday's road divisional matchup against New England.

  • Trubisky (illness) didn't practice Thursday, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports. If Trubisky doesn't return to full participation Friday, he will likely carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Patriots. Practice squad quarterback Shane Buechele would work as the backup to Josh Allen if Trubisky's unable to suit up Sunday.

  • Trubisky completed nine of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 34-25 preseason loss to the Giants. With Josh Allen held out, Trubisky got the start and played the entire first half, capping his performance with an 11-yard TD toss to Dawson Knox in the second quarter. Trubisky is currently in the No. 2 QB spot for the Bills -- veteran Mike White is the No. 3 -- a role that afforded the former only 26 pass attempts over nine regular-season appearances in 2024, with most of that volume coming in a Week 18 start when nothing was on the line for Buffalo.

  • Bills head coach Sean McDermott said Thursday that Trubisky will open Saturday's preseason game against the Giants with the starters, and that Buffalo's first-team unit will play about a quarter, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports. Trubisky will get an opportunity to work with the first-team unit Saturday while franchise quarterback Josh Allen sits out. The expectation is that Trubisky will see action in all three of the Bills' preseason matchups, with the following two games coming Aug. 17 against the Bears and Aug. 23 versus Tampa Bay, though it's possible Allen gets a chance to suit up in one or both of those contests.

  • Trubisky completed 15 of 21 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Patriots. He added 12 rushing yards on four carries. Josh Allen played the first snap to keep his consecutive start streak alive before turning things over to Trubisky, who connected with Ray Davis for a two-yard TD in the second quarter. Trubisky then gave way to Mike White midway through the third quarter. It was the first extensive action of the season for either backup QB, and it will likely be their last, as Allen will take back the reins of the offense when the Bills host the Broncos in the wild-card round next weekend.
