Davis signed a one-year deal with the Lions on Friday, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports. Davis spent his first four seasons in the NFL with the Lions before signing a one-year, $5.5 million contract with the Jets ahead of the 2021 campaign. However, he failed to live up to the deal, as an ankle injury sidelined him for the first six weeks of the season. Back with Detroit, he isn't guaranteed a significant defensive role, but Davis' past efforts have drawn the attention of head coach Dan Campbell, and he'll definitely have an opportunity to compete for a sizable role during training camp.

Davis (ankle) has been activated from injured reserve, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Davis has yet to play this season but will immediately assume a starting role at linebacker. Quincy Williams may see his playing time take a hit as a result.

Davis (ankle) will be activated off injured reserve for Sunday's contest against the Bengals, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Davis will make his regular-season debut Sunday after suffering an ankle injury during the preseason that landed him on IR. Cimini reports that the 25-year-old linebacker will likely draw the start against the Bengals and play the majority of the snaps. Davis signed a one-year deal with the Jets this offseason after registering 46 tackles and two forced fumbles for the Lions during the 2020 campaign.

Davis (ankle) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Ethan Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports. The linebacker has been on IR since Sept. 1 after suffering the ankle injury in the preseason against the Packers. The team will have 21 days to either activate him or place him back on IR for the remainder of the season. Davis played in 14 games for the Lions -- logging 46 tackles, 0.5 sacks and two forced fumbles -- last year before signing with the Jets this offseason.

Coach Robert Saleh hopes Davis (ankle) will be able to return from injured reserve following the Jets' Week 6 bye, Eric Allen of the Jets' official site reports. Davis started the season on injured reserve after suffering the ankle injury during the preseason, and he may be able to return after missing the first five games of the campaign. The 25-year-old is expected to start alongside C.J. Mosley at linebacker once healthy, which would relegate fill-in starter Quincy Williams to a rotational role.
