McSorley was released by the Commanders on Tuesday, Zach Selby of the team's official site reports. The quarterback got a chance to suit up for Washington during the preseason after signing Aug. 15, but he ultimately remained behind Jayden Daniels, Marcus Mariota and Jeff Driskel on the depth chart. McSorley has not seen regular-season action since 2022.

McSorley was cut from the Steelers' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. McSorley joined the Steelers' practice unit in early December after starting quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered an ankle injury, but with Pickett now healthy, it appears as if the team no longer needs McSorley around. The 28-year-old will now look for his next opportunity elsewhere.

Pittsburgh signed McSorley to its practice squad Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The move comes in the wake of reports Kenny Pickett underwent surgery to address his high ankle sprain Monday. Mitch Trubisky projects to start Thursday versus the Patriots, and Mason Rudolph is also on standby, but McSorley could suit up as an emergency option as soon as this week.

McSorley will serve as Arizona's backup quarterback Sunday at Atlanta after head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Wednesday that Colt McCoy cleared the concussion protocol and is on track to start this weekend, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. After coming on in relief for a concussed McCoy in the Week 15 loss to the Broncos, McSorley drew his first career start Week 16 against the Buccaneers. He proved to be mistake-prone in the Cardinals' 19-16 overtime loss, committing three turnovers (one interception, two lost fumbles) while completing just 24 of 45 passes for 4.8 yards per attempt. Even though the 27-year-old McSorley has more theoretical upside of the two quarterbacks at this stage of his career and the 4-11 Cardinals have little on the line in the final two games, Kingsbury will turn the offense back over to the more battle-tested McCoy as Arizona looks to end the season on a high note.

McSorley has been named Arizona's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury made the announcement Wednesday after ruling out Colt McCoy, who suffered a concussion during Sunday's 24-15 loss to Denver in his first start since Kyler Murray suffered a season-ending ACL tear. McSorley completed seven of 15 passes for 95 yards and two interceptions in relief, and with that fresh in mind it's possible he could be benched for recently signed David Blough if he struggles again this Sunday. McSorley had only one carry for eight yards last week, but he offers potential for rushing stats given that he ran a 4.57-second 40-yard dash time coming out of Penn State in 2019. He accrued 30 rushing touchdowns during his time at college, and his dual-threat abilities were a key factor in the Ravens selecting him with a sixth-round pick in 2019 to serve as a backup to Lamar Jackson.
