Vea (back) and the Buccaneers reached an agreement on a one-year, $30 million extension Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Vea, who is now under contract with the team through the 2027 season, made a trade request at the start of training camp, likely eyeing his AAV at the time ($17.75 million, or 19th most among interior defensive linemen). Per Jenna Laine of ESPN.com, Tampa Bay had no plans to trade Vea, though teams had checked in on the situation multiple times over the last few weeks, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. With Vea's new deal in place, the new money value of $30 million would rank fifth in AAV at his position in the NFL.

Vea suffered a tweaked back in Tuesday's condition test at training camp, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Vea is "holding in" at training camp after he requested a trade out of Tampa Bay earlier in the week. He's looking for a new contract as he heads into the final year of a four-year, $71 million extension that was signed in 2022. Vea started all 17 regular-season games in 2025 and recorded 34 tackles (16 solo), including 4.5 sacks. He's certainly on the downslope of his career and is looking to cash in one more time.

Vea (foot) is active for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Falcons. Vea missed the Bucs' first two practices of the week due to a foot injury. He managed to draw the questionable tag after logging a full practice Friday, and the veteran defensive lineman has done enough to be cleared to play Sunday. Vea is coming off a 2024 season in which he logged a career-high 7.0 sacks across 16 regular-season games.

Vea (foot) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons after logging a full practice Friday, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Vea returned to practice Friday after sitting out Wednesday and Thursday, and his ability to participate without limitations bodes well for the defensive tackle's availability come Sunday, though he didn't avoid an injury designation entirely. A final determination on Vea's status should come around 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff in Atlanta.

Vea (foot) did not participate in Thursday's practice, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports. Vea has missed the first two practices of the week while working through a foot injury. Friday is the last chance for Vea to practice, but participating even in a limited capacity would put him in good shape to play in Sunday's regular-season opener against Atlanta. Greg Gaines would be slated to see more snaps with the first-team defense alongside Logan Hall and Calijah Kancey if Vea is not cleared to play.
