Head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that Lock will serve as the backup to starting quarterback Tommy DeVito beginning with Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, while Daniel Jones moves to the No. 3 spot on the depth chart after starting each of the team's first 10 games. Though Lock has served as the top backup to Jones all season, he'll stick in the No. 2 role while DeVito climbs from the bottom of the depth chart to the top. While Daboll declined to offer many specifics behind the changing of the guard at quarterback, the decision to bypass Lock for the starting nod is likely related to the signal-caller's contract, which contains multiple playing-time and performance-based incentives. Jones, meanwhile, has a contract that contains a $23 million guarantee for 2025 if he's unable to pass a physical in March, and with the Giants seemingly no longer viewing him as their franchise quarterback, the team will avoid exposing him to injury over the final seven games of the season by making him a healthy inactive. Lock is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, which is another possible factor in the team's decision to start DeVito, who is two years younger and is likelier than Lock to be part of the roster in 2025.

The Giants could decide to bench Daniel Jones coming off their bye in Week 11, and either Lock or Tommy DeVito (1 percent) would take over as the starter. In Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, it's worth taking a flier on Lock first but also DeVito in deeper formats. Whoever starts for the Giants if Jones is benched is worth using in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues as an injury or bye-week replacement and is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

Lock completed three of eight passes for six yards after replacing Daniel Jones for the fourth quarter of Sunday's 28-3 loss to the Eagles. He added 13 rushing yards on his lone carry. After the game, Brian Daboll quashed any notion that he was considering a more permanent switch at quarterback, as Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports that the Giants' head coach still views Jones as his starter. Lock didn't do anything to force a QB controversy on his own, however, leading the Giants to zero points on three drives and committing two fumbles, losing one of them. It's the most extensive action Lock has seen this season, but the 27-year-old will likely be back on the bench in Week 8 against the Steelers.

Lock (abdomen) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Vikings, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Lock has been dealing with this abdomen issue for about a month, but it appears the injury won't stop him from suiting up for the Giants' regular-season opener Sunday. In his first campaign with New York, the 2019 second-round pick is expected to serve as the Giants' backup quarterback behind Daniel Jones.

Lock (abdomen) remained a limited participant on Thursday's estimated practice report, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Lock was injured in New York's Aug. 8 preseason contest. If he's unable to dress as Daniel Jones' backup Sunday against the Vikings, second-year QB Tommy DeVito would get the nod as the Giants' QB2.
