Trask signed with the Falcons' practice squad Wednesday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. The 2021 second-round pick from Florida was cut by Tampa Bay in late August after failing to make the team's initial 53-man roster, but he's since found work in Atlanta. Trask is now expected to operate as the Falcons' emergency third quarterback, playing behind Kirk Cousins and Easton Stick.

The Buccaneers plan to move on from Trask, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Per Fowler, Trask, who is dealing with a minor shoulder issue, is in line to be cut with an injury designation and then revert to IR. Once that happens, the QB will look to reach an injury settlement with the Buccaneers, which would allow him to sign elsewhere once he's healthy. As a result of the looming move, Teddy Bridgewater is set to serve as Baker Mayfield's top backup ahead of Week 1.

Trask completed three of 10 passes for 19 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Buccaneers' 17-14 preseason win over the Steelers on Saturday night. He also rushed once for four yards. Trask entered the game after starter Teddy Bridgewater, who he's trying to hold off for the No. 2 quarterback job. While Bridgewater looked impressive -- especially for a player who signed about halfway through training camp -- and led the Buccaneers to two touchdowns, Trask's performance over his four possessions was essentially the opposite. Tampa Bay's offense netted all of 44 yards across the quartet of drives, with each culminating in punts. Trask did put together a much better performance in the preseason opener against the Titans, when he completed 12 of 16 passes for 129 yards; however, the fact Bridgewater has proven a quick study in coordinator Josh Grizzard's offense presumably narrows the gap between both players considerably, and Saturday night's preseason finale against the Bills could serve as the platform for each to cement their fate come roster cutdowns.

Trask and the Buccaneers agreed Wednesday on a one-year, $2.787 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Trask will spend his fifth straight NFL campaign with Tampa Bay after the organization selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. The 27-year-old has yet to see much action outside of the preseason, taking just 32 offensive snaps and completing four of 11 pass attempts for 28 yards over seven abbreviated appearances during the regular season. Trask is slated to serve as the backup to Baker Mayfield again in 2025.
-
Trask appeared in four games during the 2024 regular season and completed his only pass attempt for five yards while netting minus-4 yards on five carries. The third-year pro put up only one pass attempt for the second straight season, as Baker Mayfield once again suited up for all 17 regular-season games and the Buccaneers' wild-card loss to the Commanders. Trask has only 11 pass attempts over seven regular-season contests across his first four seasons, and he's now slated for unrestricted free agency once the new league year begins March 12. The 2021 second-round pick would likely be welcomed back by the Buccaneers, but Trask may want to seek out a team where his path to playing time may be a bit more realistic.
