Nixon announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, Kayla Gregoire of NESN.com reports. Nixon, a 2021 seventh-round pick of the Patriots, did not suit up for any regular-season games during his time with the team. The former Central Florida standout spent much of his time in New England on the practice squad, and he will now move on to endeavors off the NFL field.

The 2021 seventh-round pick will now miss the entire 2023 campaign, barring an injury settlement. Nixon secured four passes for 23 yards during the preseason opener but failed to catch any of his three targets before leaving the Patriots' second exhibition due to a shoulder injury.

In the preseason opener, Nixon drew a team-high six targets, catching four passes for 24 scoreless yards. Nixon is competing for one of the final receiver spots in New England.

The same applies to Lil'Jordan Humphrey, with the two players giving the team a couple of in-house promotion options should injuries hit New England's wideout corps as the season progresses.
