Jones will return to a backup role due to teammate Brock Purdy (toe) being cleared to start Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Jones won five of eight starts, completing 69.6 percent of passes for 7.4 YPA, with 13 touchdowns and six interceptions. He didn't offer much on the ground -- 64 yards, no TDs -- and was thus merely adequate for fantasy, but his steady hand helped RB Christian McCaffrey put up points in bunches. Jones is signed through 2026, which means the 49ers may field trade calls this offseason from QB-needy teams.

This one is pretty easy, start whoever starts at QB for the 49ers. Jones has three straight games with at least 19.8 Fantasy points and looks like a low-end starter now that Jauan Jennings and George Kittle are back to full speed. Arizona has been tough on QBs, but I don't think the 49ers can run well enough to go as run-heavy as the Seahawks did last week. Even after last week, the Cardinals are seeing an average of 35 pass attempts per game.

Jones completed 33 of 39 pass attempts for 319 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while gaining three yards on one rush attempt in Sunday's 42-26 loss to the Rams. Jones made another start under center for the injured Brock Purdy (toe), and the results were positive from a fantasy perspective. It was Jones' third spot-start in which he threw for more than 300 yards, and the second in which he recorded three touchdown passes. After the loss, head coach Kyle Shanahan hinted that Purdy could be ready to return in Week 11, which would put an end to Jones' run as a startable option in fantasy. Managers should hold until an official announcement is made ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the Cardinals, as Jones has been exceeding expectations as the 49ers' starter.

Jones will start in Week 9 with Brock Purdy (toe) out again, and I like Jones as a low-end starter in all leagues. He just scored 22 Fantasy points in Week 8 at Houston, and this is a much better matchup. The Giants have allowed at least 22.6 Fantasy points in three games in a row, with Jalen Hurts twice and Bo Nix, and they combined for seven passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns over that span. This could be the last start for Jones, and he should go out with a solid performance against the Giants.
-
Jones will start Sunday's game against the Rams even if Brock Purdy (toe) is active, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports. Purdy, listed as questionable, will merely be a backup if active. Jones has done a nice job of guiding San Francisco's offense, but he doesn't offer much in the way of rushing stats and is looking at a tough matchup with the Rams defense this Sunday.
