We don't know if Joe Mixon (ankle) will miss Week 3 at Minnesota, but if he's out, then take a flier on Akers, especially with Dameon Pierce (hamstring) out in Week 2 against Chicago. Akers had seven carries for 32 yards and one catch for 3 yards on one target in Week 2 against the Bears, but he also lost a fumble, which could haunt him. Pierce (11 percent rostered) could also return in Week 3, so keep that in mind. But if Mixon and Pierce are out against the Vikings, then Akers would be considered a flex in all leagues. And in deeper formats, Dare Ogunbowale (1 percent) could also be a factor in the passing game for the Texans. I would spend 5-10 percent of your remaining FAB on Akers and 1 percent on Pierce or Ogunbowale in deeper leagues.

Joe Mixon is battling an ankle injury and Akers looked surprisingly spry in Week 2 action. If both Mixon and Dameon Pierce are out, we could see 15 touches from Akers, though he does have a difficult matchup. Don't spend too much on him and view him as a high-end flex if he gets a start.

Akers rushed seven times for 32 yards, caught his lone target for three yards and lost a fumble in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Bears. Akers got some extra opportunities as Joe Mixon spent part of the second half in the locker room due to an ankle injury and Dameon Pierce (hamstring) didn't dress. The former Rams and Vikings running back didn't make a good first impression in his Texans debut, as Akers fumbled on Chicago's 4-yard line when Houston was on the verge of putting the game away in the fourth quarter. Mixon and Pierce are likely to work ahead of Akers on early downs when healthy, while Dare Ogunbowale has a role in passing situations, but Akers could be thrust into a larger role in Week 3 against the Vikings if neither Mixon nor Pierce are able to play.

Akers is active for Sunday night's game against the Bears. After being a healthy scratch in Week 1 against the Colts, Akers is in uniform versus Chicago, with Dameon Pierce (hamstring) inactive. He'll be in the mix -- along with Dare Ogunbowale and British Brooks -- for complementary snaps behind top back Joe Mixon.

Akers (coach's decision) is inactive Week 1 against the Colts. Akers was given steady carries throughout the preseason, but looking back, that likely wasn't a great sign for his playing time prospects. The Texans will move forward in Week 1 with Joe Mixon as the presumed starter, and Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale available in a backup capacity. Even undrafted rookie free agent British Brooks made it to the active roster, although that's most likely due to work on special teams.
