  • Dolphins' Malik Willis: Sleeper QBs
    By Jamey Eisenberg

Willis is making his Miami debut in Week 1 at Las Vegas, and this may be his best chance to win a game all season since many predict the Dolphins to have the worst record in the NFL in 2026. Now, that doesn't mean Willis will be a bad Fantasy quarterback, and he could do well against the Raiders, who tied for third in most rushing touchdowns allowed to quarterbacks last year with six. Six quarterbacks scored at least 3.1 Fantasy points with just their rushing totals alone against Las Vegas, which matters for Willis, who could be among the best running quarterbacks in the NFL. He's worth using as a low-end starter in deeper leagues in this matchup.

  • Willis made just one appearance during the Dolphins' three-game preseason slate. Willis started the team's exhibition opener at Washington on Aug. 14, leading a 14-play drive that culminated in a De'Von Achane one-yard TD run. During the possession, Willis was a crisp 4-for-5 passing for 43 yards and also had two carries for nine yards. He parlayed a successful two-year stint as Jordan Love's backup in Green Bay into a three-year, $67.5 million contract this offseason, and while Willis' brief game action last month was encouraging, outside of top RB Achane, Miami doesn't boast much in terms of skill-position talent, as Malik Washington will be the No. 1 WR to begin the 2026 season.

  • Willis is not in uniform for Saturday's preseason game against the Giants, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. Willis played in the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Commanders on Friday, Aug. 14, when he completed four of five passes for 43 yards while adding two carries for nine yards. He'll observe Saturday's exhibition contest in street clothes. If Quinn Ewers (groin) doesn't play, the Dolphins figure to roll with Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski at quarterback.

  • Willis completed four of five passes for 43 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and added two carries for nine yards in the Dolphins' 20-7 preseason loss to the Commanders on Friday. The Dolphins' top quarterback shined with his efficiency and grasp of the offense in his team debut, playing a key role in Miami's 14-play, 93-yard opening drive. Willis got off to a quick start with four- and eight-yard completions to Malik Washington, and the highlight of his time in the game was a subsequent third-down, 28-yard connection with Caleb Douglas that took the ball into Commanders territory. Willis has been garnering positive reviews from his work both on and off the field during training camp, and the fact he was able to carry his momentum into his first taste of game action this summer was highly encouraging.

  • Head coach Jeff Hafley said he's planning on having Willis play in the Dolphins' preseason opener Friday versus the Commanders, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Hafley could reverse course and hold Willis out Friday if the signal-caller gets sufficient reps and looks good during Wednesday's joint practice with the Commanders, but as a first-year starter on a new team, it probably wouldn't hurt the 27-year-old to get in some more snaps in the preseason opener. Because Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's scheme includes many concepts similar to the ones Willis learned under Packers head coach and playcaller Matt LaFleur, the quarterback has seemingly had a comfortable transition to Miami and has been building chemistry with his receiving corps through the first two weeks of camp, according to David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. The upcoming joint practice will be the first major test Willis has faced this summer, as he's generally received positive reviews during camp practices while matching up against a beleaguered Dolphins defense.
