The Bills cut Hamler on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Hamler suited up for all three preseason games and caught five passes for 79 yards and one touchdown on six targets during the exhibitions. It still wasn't enough to win a job in a crowded Bills receiver room.

The Bills signed Hamler to a reserve/future contract Monday. Hamler, a 2020 second-round pick from Penn State, failed to make the Bills' active roster in late August but remained in Buffalo with the practice squad. His most recent in-game NFL action came with the Broncos in 2022, catching seven of his 14 targets for 165 yards across seven appearances. With Hamler sticking around in Buffalo, he's expected to compete for a depth role in the team's wide-receiver corps throughout the offseason.

Hamler reverted to Buffalo's practice squad Monday. Hamler was elevated prior to Sunday's win over the Colts but ended up being inactive despite Keon Coleman (wrist) and Amari Cooper (wrist) both being out. Hamler will now wait for his next chance to be called up to play.

Hamler (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest against the Colts. Hamler was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, but he won't play Sunday despite the fact that both Keon Coleman (wrist) and Amari Cooper (wrist) will be sidelined. Buffalo also elevated Tyrell Shavers on Saturday and signed Jalen Virgil to the active roster Friday, and both wideouts will be active for Sunday's matchup. Hamler hasn't yet been active for a game this season and hasn't logged an NFL snap since 2022, when he was with Denver.

Hamler agreed to re-sign Wednesday with the Bills as a member of the practice squad, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Hamler spent the offseason competing for a depth role in Buffalo's wide receiver room, and though he didn't make the team's initial 53-man roster, he will get a chance to continue his development via the practice squad. As a player also capable of contributing at running back and on special teams, Hamler's versatility will give him opportunities for elevation to the active roster during the regular season.
