The Panthers released Chaisson on Tuesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Chaisson linked up with Carolina in March after spending the first four years of his career in Jacksonville, but the Panthers have now decided to move in another direction. The 2020 first-round pick appeared in 17 regular-season games with the Jaguars last season, recording 13 total tackles, including 2.0 sacks, and one pass defended. Either DJ Johnson or Eku Leota figure to start opposite Jadeveon Clowney in Carolina's pass rush unit after Chaisson's release.

The Panthers signed Chaisson to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. After spending the first four years of his career with the Jaguars, the 2020 first-round pick is now headed to Carolina. Chaisson appeared in 26 games (no starts) over the past two seasons, recording 23 total tackles, including 3.0 sacks, while also defending one pass. It's safe to say that the 24-year-old underwhelmed in Jacksonville, but he could very well have the chance to compete for a starting job in the Panthers' linebacker corps this offseason.

The Jaguars elected to decline Chaisson's fifth-year option on his rookie contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Chaisson will now enter a contract year in his fourth season with the Jaguars and will have a chance to cash in during free agency next offseason if he performs well. The 23-year-old appeared in only nine games with Jacksonville in 2022 due to a knee injury, but he was able to produce 10 tackles, including a sack, over 213 snaps between defense and special teams.

Jacksonville activated Chaisson (knee) from its injured reserve list Saturday ahead of Sunday's game at Tennessee, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. After missing the Jaguars' last seven games with a knee injury he sustained in Week 5 versus Houston, Chaisson appears poised to return in Week 14. The 2020 first-rounder figures to fill a rotational role on the edge for the remainder of the season.

Jacksonville designated Chaisson (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday. Chaisson has been on IR since Oct. 10 due to a meniscus injury, but with the move, Jacksonville has opened a 21-day window for him to be added to the active roster. However, if the third-year linebacker is not activated within that period, he'll revert to IR for the remainder of the campaign.
