  • The Chargers have informed Edwards that he will be released, which will make him a free agent, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Edwards has one year remaining on the two-year deal he signed with Los Angeles last March, but it doesn't look like he'll be with the Chargers next season. The veteran tailback averaged a meager 3.6 yards per carry on 101 totes over 11 regular-season games last year, and he didn't contribute much in the passing game with just three catches for six yards. J.K. Dobbins instead emerged as the team's top back, and the Chargers could look to bring Dobbins back with Edwards expected to be out of the picture. By releasing Edwards, the Chargers will clear $3.13 million in cap space.

  • Edwards rushed seven times for 22 yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Saturday's 32-12 wild-card round loss to the Texans. Edwards teamed up with co-starter J.K. Dobbins (ankle) to overcome ankle issues in order to start Saturday's disappointing playoff loss to Houston. Neither tailback could generate any running room when the game was close, resulting in the longtime teammates being phased out of the second-half game plan as the Chargers began desperately throwing from behind. Dobbins finished the season as the club's top producer and preferred fantasy option while Edwards logged a career-worst 3.6 YPC in 11 active contests. The former is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason while the latter still has one season remaining on the two-year contract signed in 2024.

  • Both Edwards (ankle) and J.K. Dobbins (ankle) are listed as active for Saturday's wild-card contest at Houston, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports. The running backs were limited participants on the first two practice reports of the week due to ankle issues, and while Dobbins remained that way Thursday and was listed as questionable heading into the weekend, Edwards was a full participant to cap the week and avoided a designation for the Chargers' postseason opener. With Dobbins now confirmed to be available as well Saturday, the team's top two options at the position likely will split the RB reps between them, while Hassan Haskins is on hand for any work that lingers.

  • Edwards (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's wild-card game at Houston. Edwards missed the Chargers' final two games of the regular season with the ankle injury, but he's been cleared for the postseason opener after turning in a full practice Thursday following a pair of limited sessions Tuesday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, top back J.K. Dobbins (ankle) -- who was a limited practice participant throughout the week -- carries a questionable tag into Saturday's contest. If Dobbins ends up sitting out the wild-card contest or is available only in a limited capacity, Edwards would presumably lead the Chargers' ground attack, while Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal would be on hand as change-of-pace options. The Chargers could also choose to elevate Ezekiel Elliott or Jaret Patterson from the practice squad if there's any concern about Dobbins' availability.

  • Edwards (ankle) remained a limited participant at practice Wednesday. Edwards, who missed the Chargers' last two regular-season games, thus has one more chance to practice fully ahead of Saturday's wild-card contest against the Texans. Meanwhile, fellow running back J.K. Dobbins (ankle) also logged his second consecutive limited session, which sets the stage for Thursday's final injury report to be an important one in determining the composition of the Los Angeles backfield this weekend. If either Edwards or Dobbins are out versus Houston, added snaps would be available for Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal. The Chargers also have Ezekiel Elliott and Jaret Patterson on hand as candidates to be elevated from the practice squad.
