Johnson brought in three of five targets for 12 yards and rushed twice for 13 yards in the Buccaneers' 24-14 preseason win over the Dolphins on Friday night. The Barton College product overcame a multi-week rib injury just in time to participate in the final preseason game, and while he didn't do anything spectacular with his touches, Johnson was kept busy during his time in the game. The undrafted rookie had impressed throughout the offseason and early in training camp, so he may have a good shot at sticking on the practice squad come final cutdowns.

Johnson (ribs) practiced Wednesday, Kenny Morales of WFLA News reports. Johnson's return is a boost for the rookie who is trying to make the Buccaneers' 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent out of Barton College. Naturally considered a longshot to make it early on, Greg Auman of Fox Sports believes the 22-year-old will make the team as the No. 5 wide receiver, partially because of his ability to also be used as a return man on special teams.

Head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Monday that Johnson (ribs) is trending towards playing during Friday's preseason matchup with the Dolphins, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports. The undrafted rookie out of Barton College has been dealing with a ribs injury over the last week, and it now appears that he could return to the field Friday. Johnson has been competing for Tampa Bay's top kick- and punt-returner job since signing with the team in May, but he likely has only an outside chance of making the Buccaneers' 53-man roster.

Johnson (ribs) participated in limited fashion in Monday's practice, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. The undrafted rookie did not play in Saturday's preseason-opening win over the Bengals and is not yet able to participate in practices without restriction. Johnson had impressed teammates and coaches since arriving in May, but unless he can get on the field for at least one of the final two preseason games, it may be difficult for the Barton College product to even garner a practice-squad spot.
