  Gibson carried seven times for 18 yards in the Patriots' 16-10 season-opening win over the Bengals on Sunday. Per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, Gibson -- who headed into the weekend listed as questionable with a hip issue -- logged 14 of a possible 65 snaps on offense in the contest, while top back Rhamondre Stevenson was out there for 51 snaps en route to 25 carries for 120 yards and a TD. Though Gibson wasn't targeted by Jacoby Brissett in Week 1, the former Commander should see some involvement as a pass-catcher in the coming weeks. Gibson's fantasy ceiling figures to remain modest as long as Stevenson remains available, however.

Gibson closed out the week with limited participation in practice Thursday and Friday. If he's able to play, Gibson is expected to work in a change-of-pace role behind Rhamondre Stevenson, mixing in primarily for passing situations. JaMycal Hasty would be the next man up for backup duties if Gibson has a setback.

  Gibson (hip) was added to Thursday's injury report as a limited participant in practice, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports. Gibson practiced in full Wednesday, so it appears his current hip injury is a new issue. The backup running back will have one more chance to upgrade his practice level ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Bengals. If Gibson were to miss any time, JaMycal Hasty would stand to step in as the No. 2 option behind starter Rhamondre Stevenson.

  Gibson is the No. 2 running back on what should be a bad Patriots team, but if something happens to Rhamondre Stevenson then Gibson could be a borderline starter in all leagues. I've drafted him in a few leagues with a late-round pick, and he could be a good stash candidate to see if he'll work in tandem with Stevenson, especially in the passing game.
