The Texans have waived Wright. Wright connected on all four of his field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries over the Texans' last two games while filling in for Ka'imi Fairbairn. After being listed as a full practice participant in Wednesday's walk-through, however, Fairbairn doesn't carry an injury designation for Thursday night's game against the Bills, a context that has prompted Houston to let Wright go.

Wright will start Sunday's game against the Titans with Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) having been ruled out on Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Houston signed Wright to the active roster after Fairbairn suffered his quad injury Week 9, signaling that the team anticipated needing a multi-game fill-in. In his team debut versus the Jaguars in Week 10, Wright converted his only field-goal attempt and his lone extra-point try. He'll work to remain accurate on the road against Tennessee.

The Texans signed Wright from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday. The move means Wright will serve as the Texans' starting placekicker against the Jaguars on Sunday due to the absence of Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps). Wright has appeared in two regular-season games in 2025 between the Titans and Commanders, and he has connected on 87.5 percent of his field goals on 64 attempts during his six-year NFL career. Davis Mills will serve as the Texans' starting quarterback in Week 10 in the absence of C.J. Stroud (concussion), so Wright could have more field-goal opportunities assuming Houston's offense stalls out more often in opposing territory and the red zone.

Wright is expected to replace the injured Ka'imi Fairbairn (quadriceps) as Houston's placekicker for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Wilson goes as far to say that Fairbairn, who leads NFL kickers with 25 field-goal attempts, has been ruled out Week 10, but the Texans have not yet confirmed that. If he replaces Fairbairn, Wright steps into a friendly situation for a kicker, as Houston's offense ranks last in the NFL in converting red-zone appearances into touchdowns.

The Commanders released Wright from their practice squad Tuesday. Wright was elevated from the practice squad to handle kicking duties for the Commanders in Monday's 28-7 loss to Kansas City. Though he connected on his only kick of the game -- an extra-point try late in the second quarter -- Wright will end up parting ways with the organization one day later. The release likely signals that Matt Gay (back) will be ready to serve as the Commanders' placekicker in their Week 9 matchup with the Seahawks.
