  The Browns placed Bell (hip) on the reserve/retired list Tuesday. Bell announced his retirement via social media Tuesday, saying he suffered an off-field injury that jeopardized his career. He'd been on the reserve/non-football injury list since the start of the season. Bell was a third-round pick in 2022 and totaled 41 catches for 408 yards and three touchdowns across 32 regular-season appearances with Cleveland.

  The Browns placed Bell (hip) on the reserve/non-football injury list Tuesday, Kelsey Russo of the team's official site reports. Bell's placement on the reserve/NFI list will force him to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. A dislocated hip suffered mid-September of last year forced him to spend all but one game of the 2024 campaign on IR, but it remains to be seen whether it's the same issue that has held him out of team activities this offseason. A timetable for his expected return remains undisclosed.

• Browns' David Bell: Healing from season-ending surgery

  Bell recorded three catches for 27 yards on three targets during his lone appearance of the season before dislocating his right hip in a Week 2 win over the Jaguars and undergoing surgery. The hip injury prevented Bell from staking a claim to a larger role in Cleveland's receiving corps late in the season, when other young wideouts like Cedric Tillman and Michael Woods were able to move into larger role. It's unclear where Bell stands with regards to the injury, but he enters the final season of his rookie deal in 2025 as one of the more experienced rostered receivers on an offense that will undergo change during the offseason.

• Browns' David Bell: Won't return in 2024

  Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Monday that Bell's hip surgery is season-ending, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Bell was carted off the field with a right hip injury in the third quarter of Cleveland's Week 2 win, and it now appears the 23-year-old wideout will be forced to miss the remainder of the 2024 season. With Bell undergoing season-ending surgery, expect Cedric Tillman and James Proche to see more work as depth pieces in the Browns' wide receiver room.

• David Bell: Signs with Cleveland practice squad

  Bell signed with the Browns' practice squad Saturday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.come reports. The 2022 third-round pick was waived by the team earlier this week, but it always seemed like this was a roster manipulation move as opposed to Bell falling out favor with the franchise. It's entirely possible Bell will be elevated to the active roster frequently to begin the year, but he at minimum won't be eligible to play until Week 2.
