The Dolphins placed Huntley (shoulder) on injured reserve Friday. Huntley's move to IR comes on the same day that Tua Tagovailoa officially cleared the NFL's concussion protocol. As a result of the transaction, Huntley won't be available before Week 12. With Tagovailoa slated to reclaim starting duties Sunday against the Cardinals, the loss of Huntley leaves Miami with Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle and practice-squad member C.J. Beathard as potential backup options at quarterback.

Huntley (right shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. When asked about Huntley's availability as Sunday's game against the Cardinals approaches, head coach Mike McDaniel noted, "I don't think (Huntley) is going to be available this week." While Huntley's Week 8 status is cloudy, Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) returned to a limited practice Wednesday and is trending toward a return to the starting lineup this weekend. If that happens and Huntley is unavailable, Miami's backup options versus Arizona would be Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle and C.J. Beathard.

Huntley was forced out of Sunday's game against the Colts with a right shoulder injury. Before sustaining his injury, Huntley completed seven of his 13 passing attempts for 87 yards and a TD and logged five carries for 20 yards. In his absence, Tim Boyle is in at QB for the Dolphins, with Skylar Thompson serving as the team's emergency third quarterback.

Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday he would "guess to forecast" that Huntley will start Week 7 against the Colts even if Skylar Thompson (ribs) returns to full health, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports. Miami managed to scrape to a 15-10 win over the Patriots with Huntley under center Week 5, but he completed just 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. Huntley's dual-threat capabilities also weren't much of a factor, as he rushed only three times for seven yards. Still, Huntley has looked like the Dolphins' most capable quarterback option with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) not eligible to come off IR until Week 8. With the benefit of a bye to continue improving his grasp on the offensive system, Huntley will look to command a more productive offense on the road in Indianapolis on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Huntley completed 18 of 31 passes for 194 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for seven yards in the Dolphins' 15-10 win over the Patriots on Sunday. Huntley put together another lackluster performance overall, and unlike in a Monday night loss to the Titans six days earlier, he couldn't complement his passing production with his legs. However, Huntley did look smoother when dropping back, more than doubling the 96 passing yards he'd mustered versus Tennessee and connecting with the trio of Tyreek Hill, Jonnu Smith and Jaylen Waddle on 15 occasions. Given Miami was able to pull off the road win, Huntley figures to retain the starting job for a Week 7 road matchup against the Colts on Sunday, Oct. 20 following a Week 6 bye, the final game before Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is eligible to come off injured reserve.
