Cowboys' Dak Prescott: May not throw Friday

Prescott (shoulder) will be a limited practice participant and is unlikely to throw Friday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The 26-year-old has been limited at practice all week and has yet to throw due to the AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, and it doesn't appear that will change at Friday's practice. The team has indicated to this point that Prescott is still expected to play against the Eagles on Sunday, but realistically he'll need to begin throwing in some capacity in the near future to quell doubts of his availability.

  • Jared Goff QB | DET

Rams' Jared Goff: Go to go Saturday

Goff (thumb) doesn't have a designation for Saturday's contest in San Francisco, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.

The Rams added Goff to the injury report Wednesday with a bruised thumb on his throwing hand, but the quarterback handled every rep placed in front of him in the last two practices of Week 16 prep. With Gerald Everett (knee) back in the fold for the first time since Week 12, Goff will have his full allotment of weapons available against a 49ers defense that has given up a 12:1 TD:INT to quarterbacks over the last six games.

  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Buccaneers' Jameis Winston: Gets questionable tag for Week 16

The Buccaneers list Winston (thumb) as questionable for Saturday's game against the Texans, Carmen Vitali of Tampa Bay's official site reports.

As was also the case ahead of the Buccaneers' Dec. 15 win over the Lions, Winston will carry a designation into game day after the small fracture in his right thumb restricted his practice reps during the week. The Buccaneers barred Winston from throwing a football Tuesday and Wednesday, but he was able to do so during Thursday's session, earning a "full participation" listing on the team's injury report in the process. With Winston experiencing no reported complications coming out of practice, he's fully expected to play Saturday, though he'll have to make do without his top two targets in Chris Godwin (hamstring) and Mike Evans (hamstring).

  • Jaguars' Gardner Minshew: Logs another limited practice

Minshew (right shoulder) remained limited at practice Thursday.

We'll revisit Minshew's status Friday, but we'd expect him to be out there Sunday against the Falcons. The Jaguars' final Week 16 injury report will reveal whether the QB heads into the weekend listed as questionable or is removed from the team's injury report altogether.

  • Dak Prescott QB | DAL

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Officially limited in practice

Prescott (shoulder) turned in a limited practice Thursday, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports.

According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, coach Jason Garrett revealed prior to the session that Prescott wouldn't throw while continuing to rest his sprained right shoulder, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the quarterback went down as a limited participant for the second straight practice. Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News relays that team owner Jerry Jones expressed little concern about Prescott's availability for this weekend's all-important matchup with the Eagles during a radio appearance earlier Thursday, and the quarterback was similarly confident he'll be ready to go once Sunday arrives. Per David Helman of the Cowboys' official site, Prescott is optimistic he'll be able to increase his throwing activity Friday and/or Saturday to erase any lingering questions about his Week 16 status.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Another full practice Thursday

Jones (ankle) practiced in full Thursday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Jones maintained his activity level from Wednesday's session, and coach Pat Shurmur said Thursday that the rookie signal-caller "feels good" in his recovery from a high-ankle sprain, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com. While the Giants haven't made an official ruling on Jones retaking the reins of the offense, it's expected to happen before week's end, which will nudge Eli Manning back to a reserve role.

Cowboys' Dak Prescott: Not throwing again Thursday

Prescott (shoulder) didn't throw at Thursday's practice, but the Cowboys expect him to suit up Sunday in Philadelphia, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

With an AC joint sprain in his right throwing shoulder, Prescott seems to be following a similar practice regimen to Wednesday, when he was deemed a limited participant. He likely will earn a similar tag Thursday, but the team appears untroubled about his ability to play this weekend. As evidence, owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan Dallas on Thursday that he's "not worried" about Prescott and is "totally convinced that he'll be in top form." Prescott's status may not receive clarity, though, until closer to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Kyle Allen QB | BUF

Panthers' Kyle Allen: Officially moves to backup role

Interim coach Perry Fewell named Will Grier the starting quarterback for Sunday's game at Indianapolis, pushing Allen to No. 2 on the depth chart, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.

Allen has had some highs and lows in his time as the starter this season with Cam Newton (foot) in recovery mode since Week 2. While leading the Panthers to a 5-1 record in his first six starts, Allen posted a 9:4 TD:INT and averaged 215.2 passing yards per game. The latter stat increased to 289.3 over the last six contests, but the team has lost all of them. Perhaps the final straw was Allen's propensity for turnovers, as he tossed 15 interceptions and fumbled 13 times, losing seven of them. Carolina has a decision to make with Newton in the offseason, but if the organization decides to move on, Allen, an exclusive rights free agent, can be retained at a cheap price, which could keep him in the conversation for the top QB job in 2020.

  • Will Grier QB | CAR

Panthers' Will Grier: Will get starting nod Sunday

Interim coach Perry Fewell said Grier will start Sunday at Indianapolis, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports.

What was hinted at early in the week has come to pass: Grier will replace Kyle Allen under center Week 16. The Panthers already have fired long-time coach Ron Rivera and take a six-game losing streak into Sunday's game, so Grier won't be expected to be a savior. Instead, the team likely wants to see what months of development have yielded with the 2019 third-round pick. With Christian McCaffrey behind him, Grier may not be expected to do too much, even against the Colts' 21st-ranked pass defense (249.8 yards per game).

  • Jared Goff QB | DET

Rams' Jared Goff: Dealing with bruised thumb

Goff, who is tending to a bruised right thumb, practiced in full Wednesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.

Considering the bruise is on Goff's throwing hand, it's notable for the impact it may have on the Rams' passing attack. Having said that, Thiry noted Goff didn't seem to be affected by the thumb issue during the portion of Wednesday's session that was open to the media. In the end, Goff didn't have any limitations and will have his entire array of weapons Saturday at San Francisco after tight end Gerald Everett (knee) was able to log a full practice Wednesday.
