  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Listed as non-participant

Darnold (toe) was listed as a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports.

Coach Adam Gase previously noted that Darnold would participate in individual and 7-on-7 drills Wednesday, but the QB evidently was held out of team drills and thus given the 'DNP' designation. Per Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site, the QB had a toenail removed after Monday's 33-0 loss to the Patriots, but he should be fine for this weekend's tilt against the Jaguars. Darnold's Week 7 effort was highly forgettable to say the least, so he'll now look to recover from his toe issue in short order and continue to focus on righting his mechanics in advance of Sunday's tilt.

  • Browns' Baker Mayfield: Good to go

Mayfield (hip) practiced fully Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Mayfield came out of Week 6's loss to Seattle with a sore hip, but following the Browns' bye week, the QB feels good and is ready to go for Sunday's game against the Patriots, per Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal. While the QB's Week 8 status availability is in no danger, he's looking at a pretty daunting road matchup in Week 8, given how well the Patriots defense is playing these days.

  • Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes: Slated to practice Wednesday

Mahomes (kneecap) will practice in some capacity Wednesday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Even though Mahomes dislocated the patella tendon in his right knee last Thursday, he already appears to be making substantial progress in his recovery. Per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, the star signal-caller will attempt to throw the ball and participate in individual drills during Wednesday's practice. While Mahomes has yet to be officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Packers, the expectation remains that he'll be forced to miss at least some time while focusing on rehab. As such, Matt Moore should receive the majority of snaps in practice and in preparation for the Week 8 starting nod, but Mahomes' progress will be worth monitoring as the week unfolds.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

    Giants' Daniel Jones: Remains starter

Coach Pat Shurmur confirmed Monday that Jones would retain the Giants' starting job for the Week 8 matchup with the Lions, Grant Gordon of NFL.com reports. "No," Shurmur answered, when asked if he would consider making a switch at quarterback. "I think Daniel is going to learn from everything that's going on. Just like all the other rookies and their playing, they're going to learn from the things that happen."

After guiding the Giants to a thrilling comeback win over Tampa Bay in his first NFL start Sept. 22, Jones' play has taken a step back. Over his subsequent four outings, Jones has completed 60 percent of his passes for 5.9 yards per attempt and a 4:7 TD:INT while fumbling three times -- all in the Week 7 loss to Arizona -- and taking 13 sacks. Despite Jones' struggles, the Giants have little to gain by turning the starting gig back over to 38-year-old Eli Manning, who has no place in the team's future plans and probably wouldn't offer an upgrade from the rookie in any area other than turnover prevention. Expect the Giants to continue to cast their lot with Jones for better or worse and allow him to gain meaningful on-the-job experience.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Able to do individual drills

Darnold (toe) will be limited to individual drills Wednesday, Connor Hughes of The Athletic reports.

Darnold had a toenail removed following Monday's 33-0 loss to the Patriots, adding injury to insult in the aftermath of an 86-yard, four-pick performance. He'll open Week 8 as a limited practice participant, but he's still seemingly on track to get the start Sunday in Jacksonville.

  • Drew Lock QB | SEA

Broncos' Drew Lock: Not yet practicing

Lock (thumb) has been present at practice, but as a non-participant, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.

This contradicts reports from last week that Lock was set to return to practice. It is unclear if he has suffered a setback or if the team is just continuing to exercise caution with its rookie second-round pick. He has been on IR since the season kicked off and will be eligible to be officially activated as early as Week 9. His status will need to be monitored going forward.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Gets toenail removed after MNF loss

Coach Adam Gase said Darnold had a toenail removed following Monday's loss to the Patriots, Ethan B. Greenberg of the Jets' official site reports.

According to Gase, Darnold "should be fine" for the Jets' Week 8 game against the Jaguars, though it wouldn't be surprising if the quarterback's practice time was more limited than usual leading up to the contest. Rather than the toe issue, Darnold's main focus for his Week 8 prep will likely be in improving his mechanics and footwork after a wretched performance versus New England. Darnold looked entirely uncomfortable in the pocket in Monday's loss, completing only 11 of 32 attempts for 86 yards while tossing four interceptions.

  • Case Keenum QB | CHI

Redskins' Case Keenum: Should get at least two more starts

Interim coach Bill Callahan suggested Monday that Keenum would remain Washington's starting quarterback at least through the team's Week 10 bye, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reports. "That's the direction we're heading in right now," Callahan said, when asked if Keenum would stick atop the depth chart through the bye week.

Shortly after the Redskins' 9-0 loss to the 49ers on Sunday, Callahan indicated that Keenum would retain the starting gig in Week 8 with Washington facing a quick turnaround for its Thursday night matchup with Minnesota. After following up with the media Monday, Callahan now seems to have extended Keenum's leash at least two more games, though an ugly showing versus the Vikings could lead the coach to re-evaluate things. Keenum has completed 66 percent of his pass attempts and owns a 9:4 TD:INT in six appearances, but he's only thrown for four touchdowns over his past four starts and was already pulled from the starting job once in favor of Colt McCoy. At this point, McCoy probably isn't a realistic threat to jump Keenum in the pecking order, but first-round pick Dwayne Haskins should receive another look at some point once the Redskins are convinced the rookie is up to the task.

  • Sam Darnold QB | SEA

Jets' Sam Darnold: Dreadful in demoralizing defeat

Darnold completed 11 of 32 passes for 86 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions in Monday night's 33-0 loss to the Patriots. He also was sacked once and lost a fumble.

Darnold was downright spooked by the vaunted Patriots defense, committing a ghastly three turnovers on his first four drives. He then emerged from halftime to immediately throw another interception, and after being forced into a safety on the Jets' next possession, the second-year QB was picked off again on his subsequent series. Although he was missing starters along his offensive line, Darnold constantly panicked under pressure, floating passes without setting his feet. His objectively atrocious outing Monday wiped out the good feelings from his Week 6 return, leaving this Sunday's trip to the Jaguars with a relatively uncertain outlook.

  • Chase Litton QB | KC

Chase Litton: Released from practice squad

Litton was released from the Jaguars' practice squad Monday.

The undrafted quarterback out of Marshall spent the entire season on the Jaguars' practice squad. The team will now move forward with Gardner Mineshew and Joshua Dobbs as the only quarterbacks on the roster.
